I Hate When People Refer To Anyform Of Electronic Music As Techno!!!!!

wen i meet new people iam usually asked what kind of music i listen too, i usually reply trance, house, electro etc.. normally the person has no idea what any of those are, so with further description they usually respond, "OOOOOOOOO techno!"
ive become so use to hearing trance, house etc referred to as techno that i give people this analogy. i ask them if they consider punk rock and heavy metal to be the same thing even though i know they are not. i try to make people realize that just because its electronic does not mean that it is called TECHNO.
am i the only one that is bothered by this? |

I agree with this 1 BILLION percent. In fact, I absolutely loathe the word 'techno' now as a result of it being misused way more than it's used properly.
Even when it's used properly, I shudder. I have this girl at work that says she likes house and trance but prefers older techno because she's a bit older. She has no idea what she's talking about and it irritates me to the nth degree. It's still definitely worse when someone is bitching about house/trance etc though. "Eww, can you please turn off the ty techno music!!".... *punch*.
As you can see, you have really stuck a chord with me. Carry on. |

Who cares. Probably part of the reason it's used so widely is that it was actually the correct and accepted name for most electronic music a decade ago, before all the pretentious splinter groups decided they needed their own names.
Not that genres aren't useful, but most of you folks have the same tendency to call everything non-electronic either "pop" or "hip hop", when there are actually 30 different genres in those categories. |

once i was blasting a episode of trance around the world in one of my classes, some random guy taps me on the shoulder and was like, ' i LOVE techno, i listen to MC Mario all the time wen im skateboarding............im like naw man im not listening to techno, nor will i be got dead listening to mc mario, i told him i was listening to TATW and he had no clue what i was talking about |

| So you basically are extremely annoyed because some people haven't developed the same taste in music as you? lol Damn you are annoyed easily. Just correct them and move on. It's not worth getting all worked up about, and it's not like trance/house/techno or whatever, is the only kind of music in the world. If you a real music enthusiast you would try and help them learn more about the music you love, instead of bitch about them not knowing enough. |
