that means minimal is abstract techno ? |

This entire thread is full of people just trying to prove that their philosophy of minimal music is correct over the philosophy and definition of anothers. You're not proving anything at all really. People like it, some people don't.
One person says it's destroying modern music yet pays absolutley no attention to other genre's outside of minimal. The other person provides some elaborate scripture about how absolutely genius and geniune the concept is. Then in comes the obvious trance-jock crying Pocahontas tears about how it is the main reason their genre is lacking in development yet doesn't realize that they have no one to blame other than their beloved band-wagon hoping, "Do The Jesus", DJ Rock-stars.
It's music, get over it. One person likes it the other hates it and the story goes on. |

Minimal doesn't have to mean 'simple', as some people seem to think.
Minimal (to me) is about making every element count, making every element perfect. Minimalism is everywhere |

Yes, correct!
Now if you want to talk about the genre in its most genral sense then the year would be much earlier and that's what I was trying to get at with Julien. It was a trick question and that's why he posted what he did when I asked him that. |
you sir, are the win

minimalism is just a form of art. I think it's supposed to be a modern contemporary form, which at its beginnings schocked the world when some artists work entered a famous museum. It was basically just a bunch of bricks lined up and arranged in a pattern.
My memory may be failing me here, though i'm pretty sure there was a work of art that shocked the art world by doing that.

i dont think I know, but all the music on beatport labeled as 'minimal' isn't, right? Tech House is kind of more what it is? I thought true minimal techno was just like clik clak tsk |
what if its a hard 'clik' and a hard 'clak', with a distorted 'tsk'?
:p |

first minimalism is not a sub-genre, let alone a genre. Its a musical concept that can be added to any type of music. Yes commercial "minimal" is everywhere now but it will never become as machish as trance simply because not everyone understands minimal. Calling minimal when you don't even know what it is is not a very smart idea my friend. |

I posted links in the second reply of this thread concerning minimalism. Yes minimalism is a concept and a form of art. I am a big, big, huge fan of minimalist visual arts. For visual arts (painting, sculpture, etc), it started in the 1960's in the US with artists such as Dan Flavin, Donald Judd and Carl Andre. Carl Andre might be the one you are refering to. His works consist of tiles which he send to museums worldwide. The museum builds a flat pattern with the tiles on the floor according to the lenght and space they have. In that way, every tile pattern is different worldwide and you can see some Carl Andre works everywhere. The funniest thing is when you go to museum and people step on the pattern (which is permitted) without realising that they are stepping on a work of art !
Oh and also, Trentemoller isnt minimal. He does dub tracks, electro, but no minimal |

Would you stop ing acting like an arbiter of the truth in every thread you participate in? All the time you chip in with like "You don't know what you're talking about", dressed up with important sounding adjectives like "definitely" and "official".
Given the awful, awful arguments you routinely make, you have no credibility as a dictator of fact and logic. |
