Where Has The Love Gone? (August is Random Acts of Love Month)

Doesn't it seem like the world has gradually become less and less friendly?

I look around now and all I see is people being rude to one another. Perhaps a roll of the eyes, or a thumb of the nose, or any other generally offensive gesture. They're becoming more common with each passing day, and I for one am really getting sad about it.

I look at days gone by and say "where has the love gone?"

August 14th, 1945 "Kissing the War Goodbye"

Who hasn't seen this timeless photo of a soldier being swept up in the glorious moment gloriously sweeping a stranger into his arms in a heartfelt embrace.

Can you imagine trying this now?

He is sure to be met with a slap in the face and if he's not lucky a paternity test. Where has the love gone?

August 15th 1969 "Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music"

A country ripped apart by war coming together to celebrate peace and love with music. Naked hippies covered in mud embracing one another in the pouring rain. Does a more romantic image even exist?

30 years later they try this again. The result tractor trailers being lit on fire. And that was in 1999. Try it in 2007? Steroids, Dog Fighting and Match Fixing are bound to be involved, hell you'd probably have a hobo fighting league erupt in the middle of it. The humanity!

Where has the love gone?

I demand change! I am making it my mission to reverse the evil trends of the past 35 years and bring this world back to the love filled oasis that it once was. And it all starts here.

This August will be known as Random Acts of Love Month.
Feel free to walk up to women on the street and dazzle them with a random act of love.
Ladies you get in on it too.
Don't let fear of commitment or not wanting to make the first move stop you. Walk up to that man on the subway and grab his rear end in the same sort of heartfelt embrace that was captured in time forever in "Kissing the War Goodbye"

Where has the love gone? I don't know, but I tell you this, it is coming back.
English Rachel
I have an abundance of love and I share it all the time :)

Random acts of kindness and always trying to make people's lives better! Even if it is saying 'bless you' to a stranger that sneezes in the street or remembering to ask how someone's bday/test/interview went or holding a door or buying your colleague a coffee or researching someone's issue to help them find a solution or smiling when you feel like crying or supporting a difficult decision that your friend made or picking the spider up off the barren shelf and putting him on a plant.

There's lots of love in my world. It takes effort though, but that kind of effort doesn't feel like work.

Do it. Surprise yourself.

EDIT: I think I will refrain from grabbing randomers' arses though.

Offer genuine compliments. Give up your seat to the elderly. Call someone with whom you have not spoken recently that still often crosses your mind. Do something nice for a woman without trying to hit on her, she will appreciate it. Call your grandparents....I'm sure it would absolutely make their day, if not week to know someone is thinking about them.

Face It....society doesn't like each other....we all look out for ourselves in this fast paced world....we would rather step all over someone to get a promotion then to help someone up who has fallen. We hide behind our computers and only communicate with people who are on MSN, Facebook or Myspace....people don't want to love each other....they want to seperate themselves from reality and live in their own fantasy world.

Couldn't be less true for me. Sorry to disappoint.

I would rather help someone up. I communcate with everyone, concisely and pleasantly. I want to live in a cohesive world with good people and happy times. And I achieve it.

as an individual....you are definately far from what I said....but the truth is....as a society we don't stop to help someone and we are not pleasant to people we meet.

I always will hold a door open or other small things like that and I don't know how many times not even a thank you is given. Just today I held the door open for a lady (probably around 18 year old) who was coming into the building and she gave me a nasty look.

I would love to see strangers being nicer to each other. I personally surround myself with good people so I feel the love from them all the time but the coldness of strangers seems to be getting colder.

Some sort of gratitude from people who benefit from your random act of kindness is good (and you deserve to get some) but I do random acts of kindness because it makes me feel good, not because I seek gratitude from others.

and I do act of kindness not looking for gratitude either...I was just making a point that simple things like saying thank you have been forgotten by many people. If I was looking for gratitude then I would beat it out of people :D
