Exactly. The fact that this tradition overlaps different religions (both Christians and Muslims do it), and that clerics insist the practice has nothing to do with Islam should tell us that there's no fundamental link between this kind of mutilation and any religious belief. |

I'm pretty sure he's saying the opposite. It is the same problem, but people find differences simply because circumcision is less stigmatised in North America than this kind of mutilation. Granted, the only small difference is that, in order to achieve the very same results (i.e. no possibility of pleasure in sex), you'd have to castrate men. |
