See, I usually consider that crap sound quality rather than low volume, as laptop speakers just don't have the ability to bring out sonic dynamics.

Quality always wins in my book. Nothing like a quality system... at high volume.
Space Ibiza and Space Miami have best sounds systems on the planet. I haven't heard any other system come close to sounding as good those two.

well it's definitely a combination of both.

basically I don't own music that isn't high quality, and I would never play it at a volume that doesn't bring out the sounds.

Trust me, not all music should be played loud. I remember a friend of mine cranked up "Stand By Me" by Ben E King and the Drifters on a decent stereo. It brought out the nuances of the recording alright, but it was hilariously inappropriate, especially when the strings came in as a deafening layer.

I know...

some are also able to take a decent calculation at what information may have been cut out during mp3 conversion and fill it in to an extent.

...but this is the part I'm sceptical about. You can't just magically fill up something that isn't there. Most of the time that means the plugins just slap some big room reverb on top.

exactly.
Think of a 128 kbps rip. sounds ty.
code:
This is the data in 1 second in 128kbps mp3 . . . . . . . |xx| |xx| |xx| |xx| |xx| |xx| The computer, decoder, DFX wouldn't know what belongs in the |xx| sections!

There is NOTHING that can be put in between these clumps. You can try and mask it like Mystery says(much like the Upscaling process of a standard 480i video feed), but it's far better just to grab the track in it's natural+more complete state.

Sound quality. You can always turn the volume up, can't you? But I don't think you'll find a nice big quality dial on your amp...

How is the quality related to the loudness, exactly ? Quality of music is independent of the amplification hardware.

Low quality high or low volume = (home or clubs)
High quality low volume = if you can't hear anything.

May work with headphones, but not in clubs.
