since when is a noticeable bassline changeover necessarily a bad thing?? :conf:

(in general i mean. i haven't heard this mix)

When it makes you want to chop your ears off like that transition does.

So, out of the 13 total transitions on this CD, 8 were bad and at least 4 were just plain lazy and careless, and horrible overall. I gotta ask you what kind of drug would make someone so delusional to think mixing in this CD is "great"?
:wtf:

hi, i'm just wondering, have you ever heard of mixing with quick cuts? ....or do you just not know too much about mixing?
some quick cuts and bassline changes can work well for some tracks and specific points in a mix, on the other hand, i have to agree with you that he really overdoes it on this cd, cutting from one track to the next, and rarely takes his time to eq and make a smooth transition. plus the tracklist is meh....so i would give this a C+

I have not heard the CD, but from what i've read..he pretty much rushed out to get some recording equipment and record the CD himself at one of his gigs and didn't really do much editing or tweaking of the mixes in this one. I think he did on his last two UR, esp the first one since it was a studio mix. I really don't know why he didn't just do a studio mix for this one...something as good as UR 1, but I doubt that will happen. That CD had some awesome transitions, and UR 2 had decent ones as well. Seems like some of these DJs mix and play gigs for so long that they get..burned out? have hearing problems? I'm not making excuses....but it does appear this way. Oakenfold though is just messed up....he's been that way for years....Tiesto and Armin at least seem to have it together (i.e. aren't coke heads, I don't even think they do drugs. Tiesto smokes and Armin is pretty straight edge other than drinking).

His ASOT CDs are just Top 40 mixes essentially...pop mixes on par with Ultra, not the smooth, flowing mixes he used to do. His last good ASOT CD I think was 2005..and even that wasn't as good as ASOT 2004...and that wasn't as good as Transperance and all of the CDs before that...Tiesto seems to be coming back (though more of a house DJ than a trance DJ) but Armin seems to be floundering in a "cliche" sound/style. Seems like ever since he's gone more Ableton that this has happened..but this one was on CDJs? That could explain something as well.

I Disagree ASOT 2006>2004>2007>2005. While i didnt hate asot 2005 i think it was lacking those memorabe hits(the saving graces wher K&A,AVB,Fragile and Remy)

ASOT 2007: was a complete waste of my 15 bucks.
ASOT 2006: CD 1 is amazing, CD 2 is subpar
ASOT 2005: Has some good songs, but overall, not as enjoyable as 2006
ASOT 2004: Better than 2006 as a whole, but Disc1 on 2006 still rox it's socks.

That being said... Tiesto and Armin both released e albums this year in the form of ASOT 2007 and ISOS 6.

Totally agreed, as far as EDM CD rankings go for me, ASOT 2006 Disc 1 is third, behind Orbital's 'Middle of Nowhere' and Tranceport.

so apparently, i'm wayyyyyyyy out of the loop on this one.

i was browsing around on amazon and then saw "new from Armin Van Buuren!" and clicked it and it was UR2008...and i'm like, "wtf it's jan 3...."

upon further inspection, its really UR3, just titled differently, and i think w/ a different cover or something. i dunno. - you be the judge.

anyways, i haven't heard any of the tracks listed on their. but i've always loved the universal religion ones better than ASOT. i think i may check this out (finally, apparently) heh
