Moving out?

I'm tired of my parents idiotic attitudes towards anything and everything, which is normal at this age I suppose. We just moved house and they wont even let me put my own desk in my bedroom ("carpet damage" - funny, we have industrial carpet). I'm stuck in a small study (with carpet lol) with my sister and I can't use any of my DJing/Producing gear (hard earned $thousands). Pretty pissed off really. :p
I'm considering moving out. I'm 20, in my 2nd year of a 4 year degree. What should I expect? Any advice?
On a side note... Are my parents insane? I'm kind of worried. They have some kind of weird utopian idea of this house, it's scary. |

| After 20 years they're sick of you and just want to invite their friends around for bridge without being embarrassed or simply be able to fornicate in the kitchen whenever they want. |

tough one echo...
on one hand - i wouldn't give up me moving out for anything, i've totally changed as a person because of it...but for you:
pros: moving out will give you the freedom you want plus so much more. you'll be forced to be more outgoing, take more responsability and probably be more focused on everything just a bit more because nothing will be handed to you.
cons: you probably have it way easier than you think. seriously, think about all the stuff done around the house that you don't have to touch, from cleaning the tub to emptying the dishwasher etc. and if you're really doing this for producing you're going to have to consider all the free time you have now compared to what you will have(which is where i fault). then think about neighbors who probably won't like bumpin house music all night long.

It took you 20 years to realise your parents are insane? I was pretty sure by 14 :p
Moving out is WICKED (I did at 17), but only if you have some minor form of income to support yourself (Centrelink?) Centrelink is enough, but you might have to drink goon once in a while :p Not that I ever did :o
Seriously, do it. Your life....suddenly becomes a life.
And then you get to post endless dodgy share-housing stories too :haha: |

I've been thinking the exact same thing lately, my family are the most irritating as people to live with (and I know a lot of people say this, but seriously I have one messed up, bizarre family, and it's getting to the point where I just need to get away from them). Problem is I don't have that great an income (work part time at a fast food place and go to Uni), so I'd either have to drop out of Uni entirely to support living alone, or basically never go out on weekends, neither of which are at all appealing choices.
I know centrelink gives payments to young people living away from home, do you know how much this is? |

Yeah, that was the only downside of me leaving school, getting a job and the cage my aunt and uncles at 17, that and they kept coming around endlessly checking on me.
Think parents are irritating?
Try living with people that don't know what washing up is or differentiate between day-night-weekend-weekday when it comes to making noise and you can't sleep. |

It's their house they can do whatever they'd like. You're 20, you're old enough to support yourself. Do a cost-benefit analysis to figure out whether it's worth it to put forth the effort to procure your own living arrangements or succumb to your parents' "insanities".
You should expect responsibility. You just might find yourself agreeing with your parents who have to worry about the realities of life like being too poor to fix crappy carpets/security deposits. |

I think we can get about $230 a week from centrelink (aus study/youth allowance). I'm budgeting for about $200 a week food/bills/rent. Work one day a week at $16p/h gives me $150 left over! :) |

If it was plush pile or something I would agree totally. I am, despite how it sounds, a pretty emotionally inteligent person lol. However, we have hardcore industrial carpet (like I said). Nothing will damage this , my parents are just being anal. |

Wow, that's a lot more than I thought it would be.
Definately makes the whole idea seem a lot more viable.
Where do you work for 16/hour part time? That's not bad, I get just over half that :( |
