So what we're doing now is making generalizations about races? Wow, didn't think it would get to that.
Maybe people should be given the benefit of the doubt before conclusions are made. |

screw this hip-hop thing all together! its a bunch of crap.
there are more than enough clubs in the la area that have hip-hop already. we don't need another one.
what really pisses me off is that these getto ass people will have access to the whole club. so now not only will we have washers but we'll have wanna be gangsters running around in their over sized fubu shirts and bling from head to toe.
yo, yo, yo look at me
rollin in my escalade on twenty fo's
wit bling from my head to my toes
i can't speak any english rite
but who cares, its a hip-hop nite
now where's my money biotches

Trin i think you have the wrong ethnic group but i'n not going to prolong that topic :D
bottom line is that the VIP room and lower level room at Vanguard were rarely full so the owner of the club is trying something to increase revenue. as long as it doesn't affect the main room and djs bookings, its okay with me. i'll reserve judgement until after i see it in action...i think after Danny Howells the next nite i'll be there is for Sasha unless i go to NYC for 12 hours of Morillo that weekend.
i know some of those promoters involved i.e. Jeff Fong - he's a really good guy. frankly i'm not too impressed with the friday Element crowd, but hey, i don't see that crowd dancing much in the main room anyway. |

the fact that they can go to the main room and its a common patio might cause some incidents IMO...
but worse than that, giant's brand equity will be diluted...
but the decision has been made by mgmt of giant/vanguard so not much can be done at this point, lets wait and see how the edm market will react to it... |

what i said. hip hop and edm send out two completely different messages. we dont need gangbangers running loose thru the club on giant nights. stick to your venues and your own nights. |

| guys i don't like this idea one bit but again the crowd isn't the ghetto crowd you think...its more of a young hollywood crowd that prefers hip hop over EDM. i know a lot of hot chicks that won't set foot in Avalon/Vanguard because they aren't into that kind of music...where do you think they go? places like Element, Area, Privilege, etc. |

alot of u guys are too harsh. its just a marketing plan and all theyre trying to do is attract more people. noone looks at it as business and everyone bitches. the only way the scene can get bigger and more djs can come here is this way, and not by the ways already been done cause whatever has been done has failed.
im sure they have a target market that wont attract too many ghetto fabs. not everyone who goes to hip hop is ghetto, many of them just go because they dont know anything else and ive met alot of people like that who now listen to edm or even attend vanguard. |

Just because someone listens or likes hip hop doesn't make them a gangster. You're creating a stereotype without giving it a fair chance. You're not being fair. I know the crowd they're targeting is NOT GANGSTERS. I know that for a fact. Actually, MacAfrica is VERY VERY strict on her dresscodes & her crowd. I've known her for many many years. She's a lady in her 50's. Now you tell me if she's going to attract gangsters? Her crows is a young hollywood crowd. She brings Models, Actors, Producers. That's her crowd. That's the crowd these promoters are going for. Relax people!!! You guys are over analyzing everything.
For once I would love to see more lovely women at EDM events. Lets face it, EDM events are mostly sausage fests. It really makes me uncomfortable to dance next to a sweaty shirtless guy jumping up and down. Heck, my friend seen pix of our events and the first thing they say is "IS THAT A GAY CLUB?"

Aren't Israeli guys from Israel? The times the Israeli crowd came to Circus were the times people complained about them. I didn't make it up. I know someone who posts here that also had problems when those guys were grabbing his girl.
Anyway... good luck. |

Nicely said Woody!
There are other recent threads talking about how there are no good places to party anymore. The fact is that a nightclub is a business. A club must do what it has to do to stay in business.
Much props to Vanguard for keeping its doors open and constantly doing what it has to do to pay it's bills and make a profit!
One thing I loved about Europe was the amount of EDM was played at almost every nightclub and each club was filled with beautiful woman.. |

I dont really like the idea, the two genres/scenes dont really mesh well. its like trying to make a sandwhich out of peanut butter and tuna fish. Now seriously, who would rather put jelly instead of mayo on their tuna sandwhich other then randy seidman.
IMO the giant night at vanguard it the top edm night in socal. Not sure why they would want to mess with that. Maybe the reason the backroom and the upper lounge isnt really packed is cause the music may not be that good, and they have a top 50 dj in the main room every feakin saturday night and most are gonna want to spend time with him.
the prob is the new crowd may drive away some of the existing crowd, makeing the move pointless from a numbers perspective.
but then again, i dont know this unusual "young hollywood" hip hop crowd that they are supposedly bringing, im sure if its full of hot women then everybody will shut up. |
