Exactly; I'm hardly looking for sympathy. I'm just more curious as to why one part of the body would be in pain when the injury was far from it.

Sort of. Because it's so swollen under my knee, when I walk, my knee cap pushes hard against the swelling, thus making it feel like my knee cap is about to disappear inside my leg. It's a hard to describe, but it makes me wince.

My guess is that you sprained your knee after continuing to play once deadlegged. Most likely put more stress on the knee than it's used to and that caused the swelling.

If your knee were buckling severely under the weight, I would guess that you tore your MCL, which usually happens if the knee is impacted from the side. So depending on how hard a shot you took to your leg, the whiplash could have hurt your MCL....who knows?

Certainly hope it's not a torn MCL and rather just a non-tearing sprain and fluid. Best of luck tomorrow at the doc's office!

Thanks.

If you can put weight on it, then chances are nothings torn. Maybe sprained, twisted, bruised and otherwise buggered but functional and will heal in time. I've had my anterior cruciate ligament torn along with the lateral and medial taking a beating, the joyful memory of seeing my knee sticking at a really odd angle after a particularly stupid mix of whiskey and skiing... :(
It's fixed now but it's still more or less never going to be 'quite right' under very high stress.

Trust me, you'll know if it's torn. You'll pray someone will just shoot you in the head to make the pain stop.

Yea I've got some ice on it now and I've cracked open the anti-inflammatories.

Great news though, the swelling is getting worse.
switch the anti-inflammatories for a beer:conf:

Yeah, it doesn't sound like anything serious is torn. I used to do that a lot, I'd total one knee at a tourney and hobble around the rest of the day on my other leg. Next day my knee would be much better but the other leg would be sore as from all the extra stress. And hell, at least you didn't...oh wait, 2 ing orthopedists couldn't figure out what was wrong with my knees. But yeah, the pain you're describing sounds like something thats happened to me and shouldn't be to serious, just hope its nothing long-term like whatever the is wrong with me.

All you can do and should do is ice the hell out of it until you go see a doctor. And of course keep it elevated as much as possible. Do some minor bends with the leg if you can so it doesn't become too stiff either. I've had this kinda crap happen to me throughout all sports I've played.
