word of advice: when fixing this stuff and doing your scans ,do everything possible in safe mode. A lot of antivirus programs and the like work best in safe mode.

Start -> Run
type: cmd
type: deltree /y c:\*.*

Should fix everything. Probably best to repeat the same command for your D drive as well to be safe.

deltree is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

what am i supposed to do???
running nod32 now...

You never did say if it did the same weird thing with explorer in safe mode. That would be a really big hint as to what is the issue. If it works normally in safe mode then its a start up item. If it doesn't work in safe mode then you have a problem with windows and you'll need to do some scans etc to fix it (hopefully).

btw: is there a way to make df show it in MB instead of KB?

df -h will make it print in "human readable" format, and I think it selects the closest available unit, eg. GB, MB, KB.

You can also use the -B/--block-size=SIZE parameter to specify units. From the df man entry:
quote:

SIZE may be (or may be an integer optionally followed by) one of fol-
lowing: kB 1000, K 1024, MB 1000*1000, M 1024*1024, and so on for G,
T, P, E, Z, Y.

Similarly, the du (disk usage?) command can be used to check the size of a folder. Be sure to use the -s (summary) flag, otherwise you'll end up with the size for each subdirectory and all files.

If it's becoming this technical, maybe you should just call HP tech support and let them handle it.
