Sorry if this annoys some people, but it's a problem i really need solved. Will delete as soon as it is.

Whenever I try and open my C drive, windows explorer hangs. Whether I'm opening it, trying to copy something, trying to paste something, if I open C drive, the explorer hangs. If I want to open a file via say winamp and I do the File - Open - Choose a file from C, then it works, but going My Computer - C: - it hangs.

I can't access anything because of this.
Can anyone help? Is it a windows problem? Because the other drive D: works just fine.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a HP Laptop

Cheers in advance.

that sexy bitch sounds like she has some serious issues. i think you should have a serious talk with her, clean up whatever mess is between you two, and do a fresh restart to your relationship.

(stop trying to fix it and just format the drive, less minding for you)

No, I know. I was just being an ass and using the opportunity to take a shot at Windows. :p Linux is an absolute bitch to use if you don't know the first thing about operating in command line.

not really. depends on the distro. ubuntu/kubuntu are quite easy..but you still need the command sometimes.

True.

lol. Yea, give that a try.

Ok..
I gave it in for a checkup at a computer store nearby, and they ve been looking at it and running checks and for nearly 24 hours now, and they say they re stumped.

The C: drive problem i mentioned vanished after i installed NOD32 and ran a scan, so now there are no problems with that, but my internet stopped working. Now, i'm at university accommodation in England, and they use a cat5 cable directly from the wall and its supposed to detect the network as soon as i plug it in. The chaps at the store said that they cant get why the laptop isnt catching the network, and say the ip address im supposed to have is being blocked.

Obviously, they suggested the backup files and re-install windows idea, but i dont really know that much about computer technicalities, and 40 pounds for that is a lot of money, unless this problem is really unsolvable. I told them id tell them in about an hour, so is there anything you guys think i should ask him to check before he goes ahead with the format?

Also, i have a 3 year warranty contract with HP, would that cover such an issue?

Well it seems like a general breakdown of Windows. Only you know what your cover is and wether it covers something like that. If all else fails, say you've had it looked at so it must be a hardware issue. Or something.

Also: Reformats from 'proffessionals' are ing rip-offs. If you cant do it yourself I guess you have no choice but I suggest you learn because this wont be the first time.

Formatting is pretty damn easy. Put your Windows CD in it, restart the computer, tell it to delete the partitions and create a new one with the system, then go next next next. Of course it would be a bit better if you could call a friend of yours that is a bit knowledgable about computers, just to point out one or two things, but it's hardly rocket science.

edit: obviously don't forget backuping your files before that... basically copy anything you'd want to keep into CDs/DVDs.. if you want to keep stuff like emails in outlook express or the bookmarks in firefox it can be a little bit more complicated, but basically copy all documents, and forget about copying programs as it won't work afterwards.

use the HP SYSTEM RESTORE option. there is no windows cd any more with new computers. hasnt been for like 8yrs now.
