For the first time since the renovations, I felt like I wasn't spending my night at The Guvernment. I hadn't properly partied in the new main room, since my last few visits were either spent in the Gallery, or the Deluxe Lounge. It definately wasn't necessary to go up there this time (even though it was closed..but IF I had the option.) I really like the whole deejay booth set up, especially now that it's not at an angle beside the patio doors. The skasians seemed to have found a new home in the KH, so it was a whole new Guv experience for me. Perfect amount of attendees for the most part, no over-crowdedness, crispier sound, and not to mention wicked vibes all night! Oh how I have missed hearing techno in the main room. It's been more than a year, and it was about time! Was pretty much glued in front of the booth all night, constantly smiling in awe. I <3 the blasts of cold air. When it went off for more than a minute I felt like I was having an icy orgasm. :D
The Roaches were playing their typical sound. They've become a little bit too predictable; I was hoping for a bit more variety this time around... other than that, no real complaints. It was a really good opening set, filled with popular tech house and minimal tracks. There were less than 400 people in the room at the time, but the vibe was already off the hook! (Having a handful of clowns around brought it up a couple of notches. <3 Christina) Would of been nice to catch a closing set from these pests, but fortunately there were big things coming!
I'd been overly hyping Loco Dice for a few weeks, but part of me still wanted to check out Circa instead. I was lacking the confidence that either Loco Dice would be playing a measly two hour set, or/and he'd play ty, considering his last Guv appearance wasn't a typical loco set. I decided to go with my gut feeling...and then I found out that he was closing after Carl Cox!!!! OMG...the excitement that came from me at that point was overwhelming! I couldn't have been more happy. Anyway... Loco Dice! ! Cuckoo for Coco Puffs...Loco for Loco Dice!!!!!! :clown: He brought his game and totally met my standards. He didn't play any of his tracks, which I found a bit disappointing, but he made up for it. The tracks he dropped were massive circus minimal tunes. The bouncy, upside down, inflating ear, tippy-toe spinaroo kind! lol. I was relieved that he focused more on the minimal side, and not tech house! Could barely ID any tracks, which was a bit refreshing for once. Relentlessness for 2 hours! I was whoring the front and screaming like a warped voiced siren. For his last track before Carl Cox went on, he dropped one of my favourite tracks, which was also my favourite from DEMF:
David K - Boul De Nerf
Ahhh the memories of Detroit all kicked in. I was out in the patio at this time, and so I literally ran and pushed through everyone to make my way back to the front. As soon as I made it the good part of the song was about to kick in...and then Carl Cox cut it off and mixed into the next track!!! I felt abused!!! haha.
He also dropped an older track that I still can't ID, which was also in the same set I posted with the Ripper Farts track..
ID - Badass Chicken Song
lol.
After already being ticked off by Carl, one would think that my review of his set would then be biased, but I'm going to be speaking truly and besides the fact. :p After the loco set I was expecting the Cox to maintain the similar sound. For the first 30 minutes this was achieved. He continuously dropped some bouncy techno that had me spinning like a spin top. He had other things in mind after.. For the rest of his set, the Cox rotated from techno to hard house, and to tech house. I wasn't really feeling the hard house aspects of his set, but it was due to the fact that I had another mindset still intact, and I was expecting Carl to be someone he's not. Overall it was good, great energy from this big burger eating dude, but it left me feeling a bit empty. No really outstanding tracks stood out for me.
When I found out that the Cox and the Dice would be closing together back to back, I felt a bit displeased, since I was hoping it'd only be loco, but I changed my mind a second after. The Loco Cox (aka Crazy Dicks lol) tore it up like it was DC10!! Seriously when will I/We ever get to experience a back 2 back set from these two ******s?! WOW! Like I mentioned in an earlier post, it was more of a Loco Dice inspired set, which was perfect! The tunes just got crazier, and Loco Dice was actually moving! They were feeding off of each other..although Cox probably didn't need anymore feeding (pun intended, haha.) The main room was going mental... techno parties always have the best vibe and energy :) Unfortunately, the last 40 minutes went down...really low. Carl Cox pretty much took over, and he dropped what seemed like the same track 6 consecutive times. They were just generic, bland, tech house tracks with the exact same layers being used. *yawn*. Things didn't really pick up, and the night pretty much finished on that level. VERY disappointing closure, but if you overlook that last portion of their set, then it was phenomenal. Some tracks that stood out:
Chaim - Genesis
Marc Houle - Bay Of Figs
Marc Houle - Edamame
One of my favourite Guv nights ever! The theme of the night was Techno Viking for some reason...there were many fast moving freaks along the same lines. lol. Love it. All that was missing were costumes..like top hats and 10 inch platforms with tape. LOL Katy and Lars know what I'm talking about. |
