| In principle I am pro anything that is generally meant to help the protection of citizentry within Toronto. If this will help police more efficiently allocate resources, then it is a good thing. If it will improve response times, then it is a good thing. If it will increase the actual amount of criminal convictions then it is a good thing. However, this does have the potential of stirring up further controversy as to why so many resources and manpower is being dedicated to one specific area, while other, troubled, areas of Toronto are being neglected. Further, historically, the media always spread further and further paranoia at any sort of "evidence" being presented, no matter the argument. |

| I still don't get how Gangbanger means part of a gang, but to be gangbanged means to have sex with 3 or more partners at the same time |

And parents wonder why kids today are using such explicit language these days and engaging in certain "risque" activities ;) :rolleyes:.
Well if your daughter hears words like this on CBC News, she's going to start using the word and will get curious about what it means. One thing can easily lead to another. |

The Silent Guardian™ protection system is a revolutionary less-than-lethal directed energy application that employs millimeter wave technology to repel individuals or crowds without causing injury. The system provides a zone of protection that saves lives, protects assets and minimizes collateral damage. Silent Guardian produces precise effects at longer ranges than current less-than-lethal systems and provides real-time ability to establish intent and de-escalate aggression. Various commercial and military applications include law enforcement, checkpoint security, facility protection, force protection and peacekeeping missions. The system is available now and ready for action

Some arguments against this...
* If I'm not doing anything wrong, then you have no cause to watch me. Therefore "I" refuse to be videotaped.
* Because the government gets to define what's wrong, and they keep changing the definition. Therefore they can arrest me for pretty much anything retroactively.
* Because you might do something wrong with my information. Like we haven't see people looking other people up...
* Who watches the watchers?
* Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
And then again "I" might have something to hide - but you can only watch me if you have proof :) |

its interesting that the cops didnt offer the CBC the camera footage from when they ransacked Republik. Surely theyd have it both on CCTV and the video system that they ripped out of the club.
I also wonder what date they went on that story. You see, the way the cops barged into Republik is by saying there was a gun call at Richmond and Widmer when in fact to my knowledge there wasnt one.
If this was the night, why didnt they continue filming when they pulled up to the club to investigate? Notice the deflective statement they gave to the media afterward.
For the record, Ive never ever heard of any guns being involved inside Republik.
This is a complete sensationalist setup by the same people with the same agenda. The entertainment district does have some problems, but if there are 56000 people per night going downtown on the weekend and the result is 447 assaults over a 1 year period id say that the assualt rate is a pretty damn low number.
lets do the math again... 56000 patrons per weekend X 52 weeks = over 2.9 million visits per year. From that you get 447 common assaults. What is that? about .00001% chance of being involved in a common assualt?
Puts it into perspective doesnt it? |

For the record. I was on the Danforth the other night and got to see what looked like a high as a kite smash his car into a parked car. Im sure had CBC been present they could have done a piece on how crazy the Danforth is now. Meanwhile it couldnt have been a deader night on that street.
In other words, happens everywhere all the time and we only hear about a very minute portion of it. |
