HELSINKI. Today, Helsinki is a western city. Over the past decade the European fashion chains have arrived, while smart bars have replaced the old beer cafés. However, the city retains a distinctly Finnish quality. The fashion, music, film and art scenes are blooming, and the Nordic welfare model guarantees a high quality of life for virtually everyone.

Have these guys ever actually been here? Because this is what this place really looks like:

Oh yeah....of course there's no drugs in english cities? Every major city has some sort of drugs problem. Think you've been watching too much trainspotting mate.

The harbour, north shore and northern beaches are a nice place, if you don't mind it being infested with the pseudo-rich, yuppies and privileged wastrels of society.
And it's nice to look at... for a price $$$
Aside from that the CBD is grotty, public transport is poo to non-existent (lol they bought a monorail :p), roads are crap and most of the taxes get syphoned off to other capital cities. Suburbs are sprawling and dull, much like the US.
Alls said and done, if you can make it in Sydney, you can make it anywhere as far as work and money goes.

I agree.

Where is NYC? That should be there in place of Sydney...:toothless

I don't know how they can make that list, describe it as the most liveable cities, and exclude certain factors like the weather, economy, and real estate market.

Munich, from what I hear a very nice city and awesome place to go. However over the last couple years over a million germans have left deutscheland and moved to other parts of Europe, Canada, and the US due to lack of available jobs. How can a place be a liveable place w/o a viable job market.

Tokyo, again a place I'd like to go check out, visit, see the sites. However, along with Mumbai (Bombay), NYC, London, Tokyo has one of the most outrageous real estate markets in the world. The cost to live there is expensive enough, not even taking into account the high prices of daily living like food. Pollution is also a factor from what I hear in Tokyo, but probably no more than LA or places in India and probably not as bad as China's urban areas.

Honolulu, the city is blah. If I had to live in Hawai'i, it would be there since its at least located near a decent population to support various activities. But the nightlife in Hawai'i is kinda non-existant outside of excessive drinking. Again real estate is a big problem there with limited land and being expensive. Next, island fever would kick in majorly for me. Hawai'i is a place I'd like to spend couple months out of the year but not year after year. I would also rather spend my time in Kauai then Oahu as there aren't as many natural wonders and the beaches are far too crowded with tourists. Kauai is actually one of my favorite places on Earth.

The northern countries listed are far too north for me since I love the sun and temperate weather. I can't stand to have more night than dark and more cold than warmth. Also, some of these societies (i dont know enough about any individually to make specific points) are very homogenous and racial diversity is lacking in some places so for people who like variety of cultures, foods, might not necessarily find it there.

Having said that I would like to visit probably all these locations, if I haven't been there already, since I can only imagine what interesting aspects each city holds. Final disclaimer, this was not to bash, just broaden the categories included in the list to use to rate cities.

I can't think of a specific So Cal city that deserves to be on the list but beauty of So Cal is ability to drive within 2 hours to the beach, mountains, desert, forest, countryside, urban areas, enjoy yourself, and come back the same day. Flexibility and variety along with affordability and weather are my key factors.

I spent a semester in Copenhagen and firmly believe it is the best city on Earth. I would love to live there, I'm jealous.

A funny thing about this list is that, the only American city on the list is not in the continent (and, by America, I'm talking about the whole continent, from Argentina up to Canada).

You do realize America isn't a continent but in fact two, North and South...
