01.00-02.00 Carl Kennedy >>(Wasn't at main stage)
02.00-03.30 Eddie Halliwell >>My favourite for the day, besides the music he was fun to watch, he is now my favourite DJ!
03.30-05.00 Roger Sanchez >>Sucked, very badly. He tried to get the crowed to join in but they ignored him; was funny.
05.00-06.30 John Digweed >>Was a really good set, but I think I expected more from him.
06.30-08.00 Sven Vath >>Maybe its just not my style but I think he went too hard for too long and it just got boring.
08.00-08.30 James Holroyd >>Enjoyed it, don't know how I would describe it but the man really has his own style.
08.30-10.00 Chemical Brothers >>Amazing. |
Chemical brothers amazing? haha, you can hear the same tunes at any melb club you fool, why would you waste your time. They finished too early anyway.

I wasnt gonna go to this event, but was drawn by a few DJ's that I hadnt crossed off my list, and the fact that it was at the sydney myer music bowl and wasnt muzzdayze so it may not have been as packed therefore allowing some degree of freedom. I was right in someways but mainly wrong.
Nice and easy to get in at about 2:00pm which was great much better than past experiences at muzzadayze. Though access to the dance floor sucked big time. I doubt I will go back to an event at that arena. I aint lining up for 4hrs to be shoved into a sardine can so I can actually see a DJ. Not to mention the hundreds that jump over and neck themselves. And security guards are just tools. What happened to the old days in 2000-2005? Nothing will top AVB back in 2005. The events have gotten too big. The parties at Rod laver, vodaphone are heaps better.
Ahh well, this negative experienced affected my opinions of the DJ's I saw, as I couldnt really grasp how good the sets were without being on the dance floor watching the dj's, the crowd, and absorbing the tunes.
Eddie Halliwell: Played as I'd feared. Halliwell influenced Electro house. Very disappointing for me, I was a bit ambitious thinking he would play a trance set at 2.00pm shoved between house prog and tech dj's. Love the guys the enthusiam and ability (though his tricks are a bit overdone at times) but he's much better as a trance DJ. His last or second last mix was a major trainwreck which he barely managed to recover from in time. Crowd seemed to enjoy his set though.
Roger Sanchez: Very commercial but it was primarily a commercial crowd so he hit the spot. Started really well and finished really well. Loved some of the mash up's he did, kept the crowd excited. Sweet dreams was mad, thats if it was him that played it or digweed coz I couldnt see anything. Dont think diggers would have played it.
John Digweed: I wanted to see diggers as I hadnt seen him before. He started well but seemed to lose me, perhaps too flat for me given I am more into trance. Though I started wandering off at this point coz I got the sh&ts with how packed it got in the main arena. Not to mention that if you need a piss in the middle of someones set you can pretty kiss the set goodbye. Wouldnt mind seeing him play in a club.
Sven Vath: Can't really evualate his set coz I am not into techno. But it was too boring and minimal for me. Maybe I needed some acid? I think that set could have been teleported back to german bush rave in 1992 and it would have sounded the same. Is that how is supposed to sound? Has that sound evolved/developed/changed at at all? I am asking these as questions because I really dont know! And am not meaning to upset anyone :-) Perhaps I need some more education about this music.
James Holroyd: Forgive my ignorance but I've never heard of this guy. I couldnt actually hear anything and seemed to take a while to start, but it sounded like a continuation of Vath's set. I was well bored by this stage and started heading over to see Markus Schulz.
Chemical Brothers: Never seen them before, probably never will. I expected them to play their hits which everyone would know. Then play fillers. Although I was over watching Markus Schulz the rest of my friends watching chemical said this is exactly what it was like, some of them left at about 9.15pm and came over to watch Schulz.
Mark Knight: Caught the last 3 tracks were really big housey tunes, and an oldy. The crowd loved it. He was handing bottles of something which was funny. He jumped the record or something in the last/second last track which he would have cursed about. Most of my friends would have loved this guy, but they were put off by the famous tent earlier on from a pretty 'lifeless' set from someone else, not sure who it was.
Markus Schulz: Gold. Though I am a trance head this is biased info. hehe. Starting quite slow with some minimal sounding trance, then some eery tunes and some insane remix of greece 2000. Then something bad happened! Some knob from the event staff tapped him on the shoulder and told him something which he cracked the s about. Not sure exactly what happened so correct me if I am wrong. The volume seem to go down and schulz stuck his headphones on the table and looked to have cracked it big time and pointing at the speakers and shrugging his shoulders. The crowd started screaming out Markus! Markus! He couldnt hear properly now which affected the next mix and he was visibly upset him even more, I think he figured he was stuffed anyway so he turned the monitors around to the crowd to give us more sound! The crowd went ape and schulz continued but obviously struggling a little, barely able to hear/mix properly! He still pulled it off, and at times cranked the volume on the builds ups looking over the event staff and started laughing, the crowd were cheering and egging him on which was really funny. His set got better and better playing all his huge tunes like, the perspective space, fly away cg mix, mad mix of daydream, needs to feel, big sky. The last few of which were played with the fireworks in the background which was unreal. Hats of schulz. Why the hell wasnt he in the main room? Perhaps I would have taken a pissing bottle, some food, drink and lined up 3hrs prior to his set to watch him on the dance floor.
All in all the crowd was heaps better than summadayze imo. Toilets werent too much of a queue, neither was food, drinks, etc (at times). The dance floor arrangement sucked so that was the biggest put off for me. |

I just enjoyed the set as a whole, and the screen they had setup behind them was pretty damn cool.
I guess my opinions for the day differ a tad, I would have probably hated it if I didn't have a VIP/Crew pass. Got a good/comfy view from the FOH. |

was ok: i think from now on if i go to future again i'll rock up at 8.
last year for ferry, this year for markus.
schulz was pretty good: very good performer, really got the crowd fired up: poor guy got pretty pissed when they turned his volume down, but got over it, like a champ
the bowl absolutely sucks- i really hope they change the venue for these things- i inhaled more dust and dirt than i've ever seen before in my life: was ing disgusting, and made me feel sick... can't be healthy either!!:) |

the whole thing was a bit 'meh' for me since i wasn't really interested in the lineup apart from chemical brothers, i only went cause i couldnt get tickets to their concert. i got there just before 2, got in through the vip entry easy, went to the godskitchen tent and someone was playing 'bt - dreaming' so i stayed and bopped away for that, then the next tune was crap i thought so i moved on haha.
watched eddie halliwell from the grass near the bar on the main stage, didn't really get into it. not sure how he did it but he managed to squeeze in a few tunes in between jesus poses. i was (perhaps foolishly) hoping he would say ' you' to his set time and just bang it out but oh well.
roger sanchez was a little meh as well, i didn't really know what to expect but i thought he would be a little less cheesy. i suppose its a big daytime festival though so no biggie. he played some gay remix of 'born slippy' which pissed me off haha. t-soma: did you see the last 30 mins or so of his set? everyone went nuts and was singing along when he played the red hot chilli peppers track, i thought there was quite a bit of crowd interaction.
john digweed was pretty good, i missed most of his set while walking around but the last 30 mins or so was mad, although i could only hear it waiting in the line to get back onto the balcony haha. one track in particular sounded like old bedrock prog trance kinda stuff.
sven vath i thought was...underwhelming. i didn't really know what to expect as i've never heard any of his sets or anything but i was expecting it to be a little harder and faster? that kind of techno i find pretty boring. it didn't really seem to go anywhere to me. there was one song i really liked called 'odessey number 2' or something that someone told me so i'll check that out.
who is james holroyd? he played a nice breaks tune towards the end of his set but other than that was more 'meh' hehe.
chemical brothers were MAD i thought :D amazing show! there was only 1 or 2 tunes that i didn't enjoy, i don't mind even their cheesier songs :p lost it to 'out of control' but i was hoping they would do a longer intro to it like at glastonbury 2007. i just kept going off and jumping around haha. i thought the visuals were CRAZY, i only had a few drinks and i was tripping out, i feel sorry for anyone on lsd or something lol. the end was kinda abrupt though, last tune finished and they just ran off, i think everyone was a little confused. i was disappointed they didn't play block rocking beats but i had been going off the whole set and at the end of the day they were all i wanted to see and i enjoyed it so it was ok. i guess. it would have been nice if they came back on and did a couple of encore tracks though.
i had no issues with security, i thought they were doing a good job. people were trying to jump over the fence from the side of the bowl to get into the balcony area, and jump from the balcony down to the ground, these people are putting themselves and others at risk so they should be carted away. i saw one fight where some clown without his shirt on ran down the little gap kinda lane thing between the two lines to get back in, the guys were saying you can't, he started getting agro so they restrained him, he started fighting back and swinging so they grabbed him and dragged him out. it wasn't heavy handed or anything. some other clown who got caught in the middle of trying to jump down over the railing was yelling "if you ing touch me i'll ing smash you", far out what is wrong with these people? whenever i saw a security guy they just seemed to be either doing their best with the huge crowds in the line or enjoying themselves so no issues with them for me.
i was suprisingly fine with hayfever! i thought i would die with some of the dust and dirt going around. only hit me at the end when i was leaving, probably being at the front of the stage helped me out haha.
had a couple of nice chats, one with my line buddy nurey or something, didnt quite get how to spell it, we watched the aforementioned fight together and had a laugh. was standing with someone with a mr happy t-shirt for chemical brothers and sven vath, we would both be going off at the same time and just look at each other with this massive grin it was great haha. didnt get his name though.
some nice scenery around too  although mixed in with the usual posers and people wearing stilletos and platforms, wtf?
if i was more interested in the lineup and enjoyed the music more i think it would have been a great day, but i didnt so it was overall kinda average for me other than the chems which i loved. first time ive ever been to the bowl for something like that, it sounded pretty good i think and was easy enough to get around. lines to get into the stage down the front were big because it was way crammed so you couldnt expect anything else.

Had a fairly good day. Rocked up to see Eddie and was somewhat disappointed. Thought he would bag out some more tunes but alas, no. Wandered around the place after that. Saw a bit of Data Rock, Diggers, Elite Force, Vath, Mark Knight and then Schulz.
The day was made after hearing Schulz. Made it worthwhile. Here's a a nearly complete tracklist. Feel free to help :D
ID -
Terranova & Austin Leeds - Follow Me (Dub Mix) ??
Mr. Pit - Shana
Three Drives - Greece 2000 (Chris Reece Remix)
ID -
Arnej - People Come, People Go (Maor Levi Remix)
Markus Schulz - Fly To Colors (Genix Remix)
ID -
Rex Mundi vs. Ronski Speed - The Perspective Space (Markus Schulz Remix)
Bart Claessen - Playmo
Vincent De Moor - Fly Away (Cosmic Gate Remix)
Markus Schulz Featuring Andy Moor - Daydream (Ronski Speed Remix)
Nenes & Pascal Feliz - Platinum
ID -
Super 8 and DJ Tab - Needs To Feel (Wippenburg Remix) vs The Doors - This Is The End (Markus Schulz Mashup)
John O'Callaghan Featuring Audrey Gallagher - Big Sky (Intro Edit)
That's about all I got. No idea about the first one. Second ID is also no idea. Third ID sounded like more than anything but with no vocals. Could be totally wrong. Last ID had an awesome piano type jingle to it and dropped in with some big off bass. I have about 3 seconds of it on video and I'm trying to find it. |
