Mark Oliver

I have been very critical of Mark Oliver over the last long time now, and I would just like to take this opportunity to apologize. I know the guy does often come on the forums to get feedback, and I know he can really take heavy criticism to heart.

Over the last 5 + parties, Mark Oliver has been a standout every single time. Mixing in all genres from house, to prog, to trance he has once again shown he still has a hell of a lot of skill left in him.
In particular last night at PVD Mark was just fantastic. Great opening set once he dropped the bass with faxing berlin, and kept an amazing vibe once PVD blew out of there at 4 am sharp. Apparently they were supposed to shut the Koolhaus down at 5, but he even stretched it until around 6.

When you're wrong, you're wrong.
Keep up the good work mate.

Well said!

I've always been a fan of Mark Oliver. Infact I had a chance to talk to him lat night while PVD was spinning. We had a little chat about my iphone and how mini had one and a joke to follow haha...

Keep up the good work mate! His ability to mix different genre alone makes him a great DJ...

Mark is so under-estimated and deserves much more credit.

This man is a legend in the Toronto and world trance scence. He's the godfather of Toronto Trance. He was the headliner when raves were the bog thing in TO.

Only Mark, could bump Chris Sheppard, no one else, when BPM became The Guv. No one could fill fill those previous shoes, and make them fit better than previously and anyone else.

He could travel around the world like all the top 10 on the DJlist, and he's been asked many times. He loves Toronto and his loyal fans.

MO rules!

p.s. YES, he does deserve another appreciation thread.

I truly believe his mixing of genres is the key. He does it extremely well.
When he was sticking solely to house and running out of tracks, he throws in like "jump around" or "groove is the heart" house remixes.
It just hurts the set and kills a flow.

You can't please everyone, and there are a lot of very vocal trance and even prog bashers in toronto.
There were a couple people hating on his last few sets, calling them "too trancy", but a simple walk around the club could show you how much people were enjoying it.

I am sure if the guy just shows off his talents and sticks to a wide variety toronto will continue to love him.

I agree with what everyone said earlier, even though sometimes I'm not a fan of when he spins house, I still have a lot of respect for him to attract a full club every week. Also his ability to mix cross-genre is uncanny. Keep up the great work Mark Oliver!

P.S. And his closing sets are always ALWAYS amazing! Murder was the bass, U know what, Loops n kicks, traffic, DISCO DEMONS!

+1

and like what he's told some of us before, alot of times when he's opening up for a big DJ he's told what he can and cannot do so it doesn't really give him much freedom to play some of the killer tracks.

Keep up the Good work MO!

My clubbing experience is very limited but IMO Mark delivers. When I first got into this scene and I listened to trance only I was often hesitant about hitting up the Guv on a Resident's Night. I'll never forget going to one of those nights back in the summer and destroying the floor for hours as Mark banged out some killer tunes.

In the end, all you can say is thank you to a DJ who delivers quality consistently to a demanding Toronto crowd at one of the city's biggest venues.

theres no denying that mark oliver's GENRE SWITCHING is what makes him great.

I love how he had the balls to drop "darude - sandstorm" and "kernkraft 400 - zombie nation" at the gift two years ago. They're two overplayed songs from the back in the day, but when he dropped them, i felt like i was getting the same rush the first time i heard it when they were still 'cool.' Theres no denying hes 1 of the single most essential elements to the toronto EDM scene.

I'd marry him.

Anyways. Back to the original point of this thread. When I first started going to the guv I didnt have much appreciation for Mark Oliver, the first time I heard him was on one of the worst nights I have ever had out clubbing.. so I can blame it on that.
When I finally stuck around long enough to hear one of his closing sets,[which are amazzzing btw]] or got in early enough to hear an opening one.. I was in love.
Hes one of the only reasons I go to residents night.. which I will be frequenting a lot more as soon as I move up.

Thanks for being so wonderful<33
