Immigration in Canada. (pg. 2)

Sounds like maybe he's talking about refugees, or possibly illegal immigrants gaming the system. Legal immigrants definitely don't get those kind of handouts - they usually have to prove they're financially secure, or at least well-educated with an array of job opportunities, just to be allowed permanent residence.

Still, there's no dismissing the fact that there are some people who mysteriously manage to come to this country with no financial security, and within a matter of days start getting massive handouts and moto-voter rights, as well as free or discounted housing.

This isn't "immigrants" in general, obviously, and what they're doing probably isn't even legal. Simply because it's incidental to the system, however, does not mean it isn't the fault of the system. Personally, I prefer to get mad at the cesspool of corruption in Immigration Canada than I do at the millions of innocent people who actually legitimately come here to work.

No one - including the legal immigrants - like to see other people getting a free ride while they work their asses off. Let's not kid ourselves about whether or not this type of thing happens, because we all know that it does, and most of us probably know one of these people personally.

i totally agree, it is retarded, one reason why im glad to say im gonna move out of this country soon. canada is no longer canada, when i walk down the street and see no white ppl, just blacks and indians and asians...am i racist? nope, do i dislike these kind of ppl everywhere i go to the point where i feel very uncomfortable in my own canada...yes!

WOW... I don't even think this type of thinking warrants a response.

I am happy that "your" Canada doesn't exist because I don't think it is something I would want to be a part of.. the sooner we are rid of backward thinkers such as yourself the better.

Canada is about inclusion and acceptance...

Immigration is the backbone of this country ... without it we would not be blessed with such wonders as Miss Rachel.

The irony is at the end of the first quote... when he states it is ignorant people who bug him.

He's an idiot, but that isn't racism by any definition that I've ever heard of. Most psychological studies indicate that people are more likely to trust other people who are "like" them. It doesn't surprise anyone that many geeks prefer to mingle with other geeks, Poles prefer to mingle with other Poles, Jews prefer to mingle with other Jews, gays prefer to mingle with other gays, and strangely enough, criminals are more apt to trust other criminals than normal law-abiding citizens. Why is it so shocking, then, that a lot of Caucasians prefer to be around other Caucasians than around blacks, and vice versa?

Now, if said preference is so dominant that a person is incapable of ever forming a trustworthy relationship with someone "unlike" them, then that person is a bigot. Further to that, if the person in question rationalizes this on the premise that people of the same race (normally defined as skin colour) are superior to those who are different, and that anybody different is beneath them, then that person becomes a racist.

Racism is not slight discomfort at being surrounded by other races and cultures. That is pure evolutionary reptilian-brain survival instinct. If it were racism, then if you took a trip to Zaire and felt a little out of place, you'd be a racist. Which is of course nonsense; most people would feel out of place because it's difficult to communicate, and they're acutely aware of the fact that they look like an outsider. If I got this feeling in my own home town (which I generally don't - I guess I'm a little more accustomed to it than Mr. GQ, but I don't fault people who aren't), then I'd be a bit miffed as well.

Wow... I seriously seriously feel so bad for you
like - from the bottom of my heart...
you sound like a *FLAMING* IDIOT - LOL!!

Among all of the moronic things you just said... here is a basic idea you should enter into your forebrain:

This land doesn't belong to "white" people
Are native americans white? NO
Were they here before the official colonization of this continent during the 1600s-1700s by the french and the british imperial powers? YES

I'm white. I wasn't born here. I am an immigrant.
I have also spent a significant portion of my adolescent life teaching ENGLISH to "white" people who were BORN in Canada.

Go read some Wikipedia.
I hope what you wrote there was a temporary lapse in judgement.
If not - you have some serious growing up to do. Go to school.

I've never agreed with Aaron so much ever. I got nothing else I could add.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, Ania, but actually, white people do own this land. Canada was still a constitutional monarchy last time I checked (so says even your precious Wikipedia) and that means we answer to Queen Elizabeth II of England. That makes us - say it with me now - a white English colony that just recently became a truly independent nation, in 1982.

More to the point, the first people to occupy a land physically do not necessarily own it for all eternity. There is no "finders keepers" clause in either Canadian Law or U.N. statutes. I get tired of hearing people beat the long-dead horse of how the white man took the land from the "Natives" (or whatever the politically correct term is these days - Aboriginals?). Yes, we took their land, and now it's ours. Boo hoo. People don't just return after fighting a bloody war for it. We fought, we won, and now we own the ing place.

And then, out of the goodness of our pale white chalky caker hearts, we made those same "Natives" full citizens and decided that this was going to be a free and democratic nation with open borders, which is a hell of a lot more than the Ojibwe or Inuktitut ever did. The fact that there even was a war in the 1600s should tell you just how happy they were having immigrants around.

We may not be a "white" nation in the sense of having an exclusively white political cabinet, nor should we, but don't pretend that the Canada you know today exists for any other reason than a couple of whities who came here 400 years ago because they didn't think Europe was quite ball-snappingly freezing enough.

I must say Aaron - I am very disappointed in you.

First of all, the reasons for european colonization of North America in the 17-18th centuries stemmed from economic motives as well as the simple desire to "discover what was out there" (different from the motives of the second colonization period - of Africa - which was an attempt to "civilize" and "spread the good Christian word" among those they deemed as inferior peoples).

Secondly, by defining who owns Canada through the general statement that it is a constitutional monarchy, you stated that we must "answer" to the Queen and are therefore (I'm saying it with you babe) a WHITE ENGLISH COLONY. Perhaps you should check your beloved Wikipedia and refresh your memory as to who represents the Queen in this COLONY we call Canada and who theoretically (since you like to be so black-and-white about things - no pun intended) DOES this "answering" for us:

1999-2005 : Adrienne Clarkson --> Chinese background :)
2005-Present : Michelle Jean --> who, I believe, was actually born in Haiti

Lastly, do you KNOW or UNDERSTAND anything about the culture, beliefs, or governmental systems of the Aboriginal peoples who lived here prior to the european conquest? You can pick up a copy of Pocahontas. Sadly, concensus and a respect for nature were replaced by mercantilism and an exploitation of the earth. "A hell of a lot more" was done to this land for sure.

So - sorry to burst YOUR bubble A-rod - but I'm not buying ANY of what you just said.

And by the way, check your definition of "occupy":
"More to the point, the first people to occupy a land physically do not necessarily own it for all eternity."
You possibly just rendered your entire WEAK ASS UNINFORMED argument here a total falsehood.

*hugs and kisses and ass kickings* :)

IMMIGRANTS!!

No. Not in the slightest.
El K Dee
I moved here in 2000 after my parents providing sufficient papers to prove we had hundreds of thousands of dollars backing us up. In addition my parents had to provide their degree papers etc.

My dad provided his degree in electrical engineering along with binders filled with certification in training from france, UK, germany, Hong Kong etc provided by companies such as Ericson, Alcatel, Motorola...the list goes on. Despite all of this, till date, my dad is unable to get a job here in his field or even remotely close to his field as he is "over qualified". if anyone wants to talk about irony, talk about the fact that majority of the immigrants that come here are brought here for the essence of intellectual capital but dont get what they bargain for.

Please do NOT confuse immigrants with refugees. I have personally seen refugees abusing the system by having only one person in the family work while the mother happily sits at home and the kids spend the alotted monthly amount they get from the government for "refugee status" on frivilous things such as cars and gadgets. while at a family such as mine, every member in the family has worked our asses off since the time we moved here.

The Canadian Immigration Policy is a big mess. There is a big lack of skilled workers in Canada but yet the process of coming to Canada to work is so long and unappealing many just turn away.

I for my self I am currently in the process of applying for my permanent residency papers. I am young educated (university & college all from Canada) have no criminal offenses, and lived here for the last 10 years, yet I have to apply under the same circumstances as someone coming from a 3rd world country with no education and knowledge of the country. For me that just does not make a lot of sense. And the wait times are ridiculous as well. About 9-15 months.
