Danny Howells - why so popular with TA's?

I have the opportunity to see Danny at the weekend possibly
.. he is obviously popular with Tranceaddicts being number 16 in the top 250 on this site. Much higher than renowned 'pure trance' dj's. Not bad for a prog house dj.

What can I expect? I have downloaded one set... it seems sort of trancy, but a slowish bmp?

Does he up the tempo later in the set?

Cheers

You can expect the following things:

1. For your socks to be rocked off.
2. For you to have the best night of your life.
3. For your love of trance to immediately turn into a love of all things house.
4. For you to orgasm at least once on the dancefloor.

I can only guarantee three of those things happening.

EDIT: And as far as what he plays, he plays anything he feels like playing. And as far as why he is only #16 - he would be much higher if he had more exposure. Because all in all, nobody holds a candle to Howells.

He usually plays open to close. He starts VERRRRY slow and raises the BPM about every hour or so till he gets to around 125-130. He's dope. Don't pass it up.

I concur on all points made. I wish he'd come play near me...

Just go see him and you'll understand why people praise him like they do.

Attend with an open mind if your regular listen is those "pure trance" DJ's though.

BTW, what set did you download?
Alex
Because he plays music that's good and has a "doesn't give a " attitude about it, not there to make a point, just to make people dance.

depending on the venue, the crowd, the night... he can get very tough and techy as the night progresses. his set at extrema was more of an outdoor, daytime, everyone dancing by the water in swinsuits and bikinis kind of set haha (which it was  ). youll get something very different at a club, i dont think youll be dissapointed :thepirate

He does seem to carry that lax attitude into a number of areas regarding his performing career. Take the cover to GU: Miami- this is an excerpt from an interview conducted with him over at RA:

"In reference to the Miami cover shot DJ Mag commented that Danny had "no excuse for such image-crimes". So is Danny suitably humbled by this stern ticking off? "[the cover shot] is a true reflection of the disgusting clothes I wear. I have the worst shirt collection in the world and the fact that I got one these shirts on the cover is brilliant. Best cover ever!" If only DJ Mag didn’t take themselves so seriously."

Here's the entire interview.

Another little funny sidebar I read a couple of years ago: someone also asked him on his forums where he found that hideous shirt, and although he wouldn't say, he commented that he could smell a 'nasty shirt' from miles away (or something to that effect). Seems like the kind of mega-DJ who lacks the typical mega-DJ attitude- would love to see him spin sometime.

So yeah, add an atrocious shirt to the list of things you can expect when seeing him.

when i've seen him he has a cap and a tshirt on

just has a great, no bull attitude

he is a dj, pure and simple. no star antics, not really known as a producer trying to whore his stuff , just a damn good deejay

When you see him, you'll know.
