I don't blame you guys one bit for not going to see Deadmau5, I know him and he's an .
Once, he wrote me this really nasty letter in 4th grade. Luckily, I kept that note and to this day I throw it in people's faces whenever I don't get my way. I'll tell you, there's nothing better than holding a stupid grudge, especially if that grudge is against a DJ who, for whatever reason, was in a bad and unmotivated place in his life and couldn't legally travel to the US because a promoter wouldn't pony up the leg-work to get a visa sorted out and instead asked him to defraud the US government...not like you've been hot on border control or anything lately.
Good to know I'm not the only one with sour grapes now that he's a en rockstar.
How about this, I like music, I like his work, I like going to parties - so go and stop being childish. Or were you hoping he would notice that you didn't show?
Or, at the very least, keep working to positively develop your relationship with him so that now he has a visa, he can come and rock your world...and possibly help you out. If he's come this far in the last year or so, imagine what this kid has the potential to do. But I guess it's easier to be a little bitch. I hope he saves this thread for the next year just in case you come around and invite him to play again.
Maybe, just maybe, act like a professional and don't bad-mouth other professionals on public forums...I've heard that e written years ago can come back and haunt you.

You're not doing him a favor, I'll tell you that... Instead of replying to you and your immature remarks, as if you're Deadmau5 and merit a reply, I won't, except for one issue, cos you're probably just another idiot behind a computer screen... As far as a Visa goes though, I don't know any promoter who's ever gotten a DJ a Visa... Agencies take care of that, and as Deadmau5 mentioned, his agency took care of it, after a long and tedious process... No promoter is going to say, "Yeah, let me drop what I'm doing with my upcoming parties and lineups, and spend a few months of paperwork and 1500$ for a DJ's Visa who will draw a crowd of maybe 10 (in the spring)"... It doesn't work that way. I could be wrong but I don't think that's ever the sequence of events that ever occurs in booking DJs... I know because I book DJs... Half the DJs that come to the United States do so without this Visa and no one's getting locked up for it, or has had problems with this (except for maybe two instances I have heard, both in Los Angeles)... But, I'm not even going to touch this post any further, you're doing more harm to your "mau5" than good.

oh well. it's not very professional on his part, at all... so much in fact that even now that i can enter / perform in the US...im not really interested in working with him... and that just made him upset enough to post random bull on the forums i guess.
and as it turns out, he has alot of lil buddies and whatnot on his side... so yeah, thats recipe for a good lame thread right there.
... but i dont think it all amounts to me "being a dick" ... if anything, i did the right thing by shutting down that gig 2 years ago.. wotherwise i'd probably not have the opportunnity to play all these new ones. I like to run everything legit, and i dont like to deal with people who dont. its not that hard to understand really... but the rest of the "im an " order should really give it a rest... 70 out of 73 people who make these claims, i've never even met in the first place. :\

then try booking an international DJ, because if you're about to tell me that you've never heard of an international DJ being barred from entering the united states because they did not have the proper permits on hand... then you are on another planet.

You're half right, I'm not a DJ or a producer - I'm a tech.
I don't do tours to the US without a visa and I don't blame him for not wanting to mess with the border patrol either just because everyone else is doing it.
My key point here is that badmouthing him on here isn't going to help anyone and just makes you look small and unprofessional.
And if you're going to let the rantings of one club kid affect who you book, because what - I pissed you off, then seriously how professional can you be? You offered him a gig, he declined. Get over it. I don't even know Joel, except through TA and seeing him play.

Not one headliner we have booked was American (except for Dinaire), all international DJs... We know very well how the game is played, and yes, we are aware of when it has gone wrong, but at the time (April 2007, not "two years ago" like you say in your "yes me to death cos I need support" thread in the Toronto forums), we reached out to promoters in the area to pool in efforts to pay for your oh-so-necessary 1500$ work permit, and the only response I got was "Dead-who?... Never heard of him, anyone else you guys need to have double booked?" Reality check for you, but that's how the business is. If an artist wants to "spread his music to a new market", when they're at a low and underground level in their career, they do what they need to do that.
That's funny. I can name at least 6 American promoters and DJs who have given me a high-five (in PM, Myspace message, or IM form) and nod of agreement for mouthing you off like this, so you people out there better believe this isn't an isolated case. I won't name them though, they have much more to lose. One thing you need to understand is that we are an independent promotion group. We work with independent venues, and bring in (for the most part; of course some parties don't always deliver) an independent, refreshing, and EDM-knowledgeable crowd. Being "unprofessional" by speaking about all of this on a forum is nothing that I really care about. You're the bigtime producer now, and at the end of the day, we're regular people just like everyone on this forum: we're just regular people that love EDM and put our own hard-earned money to put on parties. I think one of the beauties in the New York scene is the emergence of independent promoters like me (and guys who do their job 50-100 times better and more consistent than me)... The amount of independent parties is what this city's all about. Back to the point though.. so, me being a "regular EDM person", I have opinions, views, and like a "regular person", I call them out when they need to be, at no loss to my "professionalism".
I let my argument drop yesterday afternoon, and there was a full 24 hours of silence, where the only thing people were speaking about was Pacha and how big it was. Responding to this thread and defending yourself was legit. But, then your aching need this afternoon to post up a (for the most part) "help me" thread in Toronto; what was the need? |
