See Dennys, I do agree that compared to before the situation for many Russians has improved. The major problem with that is that there is an ever growing disparity between rich and poor. History repeats itself my friend, and when this happens sooner or later these same disparities amount to civil unrest. Censorship and control of the media are also some of the earlier signs that more is to come. An independant state does not regress completely overnight, the comparisons that can be made between todays Russia and Nazi Germany are becoming more apparent and scarier everyday. Add to this the disparity between rich and poor that i mentioned previously and all the elements for a proper conflict internally as well as externally are brewing nicely towards an eventual boil over.

The Russia you see today will not be as civil in 5 years (if you can even call it civil, as human rights are becoming a bigger issue in this country even to the point of eventually trumping the Peoples Republic Of China). In short, when the hits the fan it will not be pretty. If you cobine this with the situations in the rest of the world, this is something that needs to be adressed sooner than later, because Putin's Russia will not work, and when it fails the threats between east and west will come back to the center stage. No one wants this.

I don't say any of this out of dislike to Russians either. Through playing hockey with many, to working with them, as well as counting many as my personal friends, Russians are a great people with values and not all corrupt mafia types. The problem is Germans are great people as well, sometimes an improper Hierarchy (and this is the case) can make the best people do some of the worst things.)

I believe this is the most serious post i have ever made and i feel dirty. (Donkey chop, herpes , aids, stoli, phew *wipes brow*)

but it's not like the man is slaughtering jews and sending peeps to the gulag... well not 'till later anyway.

if you can point me to another man that was qualified to lead the country after the disaster that was Yeltsin, I'll gladly listen.

But if there's only 1 man in contention you'll just blindly line up behind him? You're a cretin and this thread is making me cringe.

lol you know that there isnt really any democracy and even if he won he wouldn't win. ;)

How can you win if your platforms are silent and repressed as well as your candidates randomly jailed.
