it's a review screening for the writers in the city (i work @ a newspaper), and i know the two peeps who do review articles.
since they know i'm interested in these things (i act) they invite me all the time to movie/theatre previews.
just get to know your local newspaper's movie reviewer and you can get the hook-up all the time too :)

I'm sure there are for press - and in Milwaukee alone there are half a dozen midnight showings already selling tickets (though I'm assuming that's not what you meant by "pre-screening").

Regardless, I don't think Denys would be one to lie about something so trivial, and the only reason I could imagine for Abrams to withhold the film would be that he doubts its quality and wants to cash in solely on the hype and not because it's a quality film.
