This is my least favorite in the series. Diggers had a good idea going with mash-ups and I'm sure he's loving the experimenting with Ableton, but I think he forgot to focus on the drive of the mix.
It's just a bunch of sounds put together. I can't really remember anything from the mix because it's TOO complicated. It's like how the epic trance producers think adding 7580983243 things into a track will make it sound better. The mixing however, is seamless.
The "vortex" John is really known for isn't there at all. Wasn't this last installment supposed to be based on peak hour madness? Only the last track has that feeling. That track is ing INSANE by the way.
Disappointed. Few stand out tracks. Maybe I need a few more listens for it to grow on me.
BTW, anyone think about playing the entire series in one sitting? Wonder what kind of ride that would be... |
Gonna listen to all four on the car ride to Dantes on 14th[Kazell Sasha John Digweed 6 hours of AWESOMENESS], should be a wild trip. Personally, i find 1, 2, & 3 plus 25 minute Gridlock to all be fine pieces of art, but I also wouldn't listen to them every day!:haha: |

| I've always wondered what it would be like to mix the first track of Volume 2 into the last track of Volume 1 etc., and get a long 5+ hour set :p |

| I am open minded about electronic music but this is just terrible, by far the worst of the series. There is no flow, no rhythm, and no emotion whatsoever, completely flat sounding garbage. The only good thing about this is the John Digweed label thats why people are taking more time trying to understand whats going on in this mix, but there is nothing going on:( |

yeah, I have a huge amount of respect for Digweed and everything, but I just don't think he's the kind of DJ thats well suited to tons of Ableton mashing. He's more of an A-to-B kind of DJ, and he really seems to get lost in this volume. I wish he'd stick to playing bangers, rather than trying to cram 4 bangers into one track. I think the reason this mix is weak is probably the reason his solo production efforts have been weak as well, its like he needs someone to engineer for him (Nick Muir) to achieve his full potential.
Stick to the script, Digweed. |

You people bashing this have got to be kidding me...I've been listening to the promo since it surfaced and every time I listen to it I like it more and more.
Give it another chance and it will grow on you ;) |

It doesn't say "Digweed" in any way, what-so-ever.
Easily forgettable album compared to his previous works, including his other releases for the Transitions series. |

It DOES say "Digweed" and even if it didn't, what's the big deal? He's been changing his style over the years and has always managed to stay fresh and surprising due to his knack for finding great tunes regardless of genre. You say it's forgettable, I say it might even become a classic, but who knows?
Just get over the layering and enjoy it for what it is, a great set of great tunes! |

So you're saying to basically ignore the concept of the album...?
Digweed was trying to give a go at Ableton and he failed, miserably. I think he was tinkering with something he hasn't had much experience with. I don't blame him, the possibilities COULD be amazing. I think he was impressed with what he could do, but it seems a bit amateur compared to what other artists have accomplished.
Like others have implied, Digweed may not be an adventuring Zabiela, more of an A to B DJ, but he does that extremely well and should stick with it.
edit: Actually, maybe what Digweed did was impressive, but I think he went TOO far and butchered what could've been something fantastic. |
