Hang on you get all shirty even reading a post about Afl. Oh it all makes sense now since you +1 for Carlton.:D |
Hang on a sec SydneySider, I've been barracking for the NavyBlues when aussie rules where still VFL owned and been with the club at the peak and in the pits. I further live and always have lived in an area which corresponds to my choice of footy club, unlike some but that does not matter I guess...
What is your forecast for the Carlton vs Hawthorn game by the way? |

Go back and have a look at the replay Philby, while that bounce was an absolute shocker, the ball into North's forward line was a bomb that ended up in a 50/50 contest. The only reason we scored was because we were harder at at than your boys, which is ultimately why we ended up winning. Medhurst's 50m penalty not long after which resulted in a goal was as much a gift anyway. And if we had have kicked straight (for the second week in a row), the game would have been over well before that anyway. I've never seen such a bigger pack of whingers as the entire lot of Collingwood fans at the MCG last night. You'd think it was everyone else's fault except the teams that they lost, but that always seems to be the way ;)
OK, it's time for a little bit of a rant... Collingwood supporters (not necessarily you Philby ;)) listen up.
I've never particularly 'hated' Collingwood as has generally become fashionable over the last 50+ years. Every sporting league around the world has those types of clubs with big histories and big rivalries and all that stuff is a fantastic part of the fabric of Australian Rules Football. Last night at the MCG i was sitting in a bay on level 2a of the MCG and as has generally been the case being a North Melbourne supporter from day dot, i was in the probably 2:10 ratio of North to Collingwood supporters there. Never before have I witnessed such ugly arrogance from a group of supporters that in reality have absolutely no reason to be, considering that for the last FIFTY years (generally regarded as the modern era of the game) the only success that this "powerhouse" has had has been ONE solitary premiership, and one absolute choke a few years ago. Eddie McGuide has talked of Collingwood being the Machester United of the AFL many times which is such an absolutely laughable rhetoric considering that at least Man U has continually had sucess. While in the context of a team with a rich history etc that may be true, perhaps Collingwood would be better served to focus on creating a team culture based on a bit of endeavour and guts instead of hype, spin and a very tired rhetoric.
I had a supporter sitting behind me commenting all night about North being the charity case of the AFL. Well you can have all the money in the world, you can buy brand new facilities & get them sponsored by multi-national car companies, you can fly your team to do some altitude training across the other side of the world, and sell lots of merchandise and build a big "brand", but one thing that you can't buy is success – and Collingwood as a shining example of this. Something which I took great pleasure in reminding my friend behind me of that after the final siren (and the entire bay by the end of it lol).
After what I witnesed last night, i'm wondering whether that old generalization that Collingwood supporters are morons could actually be true - because you'd have to be a moron to honestly believe that your club is such a "powerhouse" when if you look at the stark reality of return you've got for all that "power" you should be the laughing stock of the AFL.
Time to stop fooling yourself, take a step back and look at the facts of it Collingwood. You might be running a good business down there, but you've been a mediocre football club since most of your supporters will be able to remember. It might do some people/players at Collingwood the world of good to spend a bit of time slumming it down at Arden Street with my charity case of a team, you might learn a thing or two about what a footy club should be about ;)
End rand ;)
Until we meet again later in the year Collingwood... |

well said dean. my thoughts exactly.
managed to tip 7 winners this week.. but my supercoach team bombed!
i no longer have a fear of travelling. the hawks proved to me last night that they have matured as a team and are ready to give the cats a shakeup. the depth in the squad is unbelievable at the minute
fkn buddy franklin. hawthorn has had many great forwards in the past, and we finally have another one who i think can take our club places. havent had a decent forward since dunstall retired.
anyway. im just wrapped that after a few years of rebuilding and being at the bottom end of the table, the hawks are up top where they deserve to be. |

haha nice one dean :D why would i look at the replay? it would probably prove what i said is wrong :p
some collingwood supporters scare me too lol
although ill never forget going to an anzac day match once with my family, i think was about 14 or so, we were sitting high in the southern stand and this essendon supporter walks to the edge and goes absolutely ballistic before the game has even started, he is swearing and screaming yelling out 'you are ing dead buckley' etc etc, he had the beanie and scarf and jumper with badges, i think he was just missing a few important chemicals in his brain...it was a bit scary...
what do you mean when you say absolute choke though? we lost 2 grand finals in a row against brisbane, neither of those we were favourites for and i think it was a bit of a suprise that we made it, port were the chokers i thought. we pushed brisbane pretty hard in the first one as well. and last year we almost knocked off geelong in the pre-lim so even though we havent gotten the silverware we are at least pushing for it. the pies won in 58 and 90 so thats twice in the last 50 years, north has won 3 so you are one ahead, but we have played in another 10 grand finals since 58 other than the ones we won compared to 3 for north so again we dont have the cups to show for it but have been at the pointy end of the league for longer it seems.
its pretty sad though that they say north is a charity case, i agree with most of what you said hehe. i like north melbourne, you get the feeling sometimes they play with more spirit and determination because they dont have the "glamour" of teams like collingwood. and my favourite player went there after collingwood so of course i have a soft spot for them haha.
i wouldnt say we should be the laughing stock but i agree we probably should have had more success than we have. |

Well one in 49 years ;)
And yes, maybe 'laughing stock' is a little over the top, but you seem to get my point ;) |

Atmosphere was tense there yesterday but ended flat. Both sides had more than enough chances to get over the line.. at least we didn’t come out with any injuries.
Funny = the roos jumping around thinking they had won... then realising the score was tied :haha:
Debut kid White proved his worth, hoping Spides is back in next week. |

| There was only one team actually trying to win the game yesterday & it certainly wasn't the Swans. I don't believe Sydney deserve to win many games at all playing footy like that at all, but they did finally try and have a crack to win it in the last 5 minutes which made a draw at least a little more fitting. |

Richmond made too many stupid mistakes yesterday, tried handballing too much, hawthorn deserved to win, but its good to see more positives coming from yesterdays game, the young lads are finally starting to show a bit.
in saying that though, if we were playing Geelong they would have beat us by <100 PTS |
