strange thing is you dont usually get screened in the country you are going to, only the one you are coming from, unless thats changed in dubai now. grooverider would have had to have brought the drugs in with him already or picked it up while in dubai.

he was taking them in.....
gutted for him :stongue:

Sounds like Michael Vick with his unknown substance at the Miami Airport. If you're not a celebrity, then you go to jail. Sucks to be him with Muhamed the Molester as his cell buddy...

Still, I'm not trying to undermine the absurdity of this situation. Deportation would have done just fine. And what the hell is the UK doing about this?

Pull away any investments British companies have in Dubai as there is tons of building going on out there. Wouldn't suprise me if we have arms deals too. However money speaks in this day and age.

My parents have been to Dubai twice and from what I've heard the Arabs treat the immigrants (mostly Indians/Pakistanis/Philipinos) who do all the work like slaves.

quite true, keir.

my uncle goes maybe every 3 months and says that away from the glamour of the buildings and the shopping centres, the poverty is immense and it's quite hard to go through some places without wondering if you're going in & out of a different world, such is the contrast between the rich & the poor.

My friend and I passed through Dubai on the way to Pakistan, we went through Glasgow airport high as apple pie, but we obviously weren't stoned by the time we got to Dubai.

If I knew that I could have got busted for having a speck of green on me, I would have thought twice.

This punishment is too harsh!

I havent been to Dubai.. but from what I 'heard'.. Arabs in Dubai like Muslim Arabs are not poor.. they throw away TV sets if it gets any fault instead of getting it repaired.. native Arab Muslims born in Dubai are doing pretty good because of oil dolouts (sp)..

Its the immigrants who are poor.. they do all the cleaning, building and construction stuff.. like a guy with engineering degree from Asia hired to tight bolts and nuts there and stuff..

These immigrants live in specific area.. and they are not allowed to go to beaches where tourists roam.. like bul jarab hotel area and alike..

RIP? He's just going to be in jail for 4 years. Dubai's drug laws are strict, but it's nothing compared to Singapore with their mandatory death sentence for drug possession.

Singapore does have some f*cking gooooooood pills though.

I will always try to arab, no scratch that, Muslim countries. By no means do i mean that in a racist way. I just know that each of those countries are entitled to their own laws. Something as simple as wearing the wrong clothes, accidentally using the wrong hand gestures, or saying the wrong things can lead to a lengthy prison term. There is a big chance that the court system will probably not be too fawn of westerners at all.

With my job, i get to learn a great deal about different cultures. It took me about a year to figure out that something unreasonable to me is COMPLETELY within reason somewhere else. We just have different mindsets.

In Dubai you don't even have to have drugs on you to get the minimum four-year prison term. Any trace of drugs in your bloodsteam no matter how small is valid for them. Grooverider had two things against him. 1 is the weed and the other was that he was also caught "smuggling" Porn CD's.
