very glad I did not see that live. Looks like his leg is sheared off.

Yea, that angle certainly does make it look like he's come in higher.

its a tough call... yellow card yes... red, i still say no..

its 2 min into the game, unless there is some back story or earlier season hostility or some other factor a red card was not merited..

75 min in with both teams showing a lot of aggression then yes..

i'll agree its high, but he's coming down and not like he's sliding with his leg up.. we arent perfect.. he just misjudged his timing and unfortunately this happened...

i wonder if it broke teh skin in the sock b/c it sure did look like the bone might have been poking the sock.. heh...

As a Croatian and a Gunners fan, I'm am absolutely distraught and while I'm totally pissed off right now, I think it shouldn't be a ban.

In saying that though, 3 games and a weeks wage is an absolute joke. Maybe the tackle wasn't malicious but Taylors weight is obviously on his back foot which is indicative of the classic "stomp" on the ball with his studs up.

The FA and even FIFA should be much tougher on challenges like this. It was a bad tackle regardless of intent and the penalties should be much tougher.

Hopefully they start making examples of careless challenges like this. A life ban is excessive and not needed in this case but the penalty should definitely be big.

Eduardo seems to be recovering ok. It looked terrible from the pictures and videos and looked like it could be career ending, but the surgeons have said he is recovering well and the biggest risk is infection in the first 6 weeks. After that, in about a year he should be back to full form.

Totally ruins our Euro dreams now though. While we do have a good team and will find a way to fill that gap, it just won't be the same and no doubt missing Eduardo will have a significant mental impact on the players.

Anyone that's Croatian knows exactly how I feel. I'm literally close to tears.

To add to that, na there isn't too much tendon damage apparently. It was a clean break and not his ankle so hopefully he should be back.

Oh well, roll on World Cup 2010 now I guess :( :( :(

I find it hilarious that anyone should dispute the red card. Eduardo broke his ing leg.

I think a life ban is...well...probably out of order...but yes, like others have said, the penalty should be big.

Who cares if it's 2 minutes into the game? Why should time make a difference? lmao. It's the seriousness of the tackle.

Wenger calling for a life ban for Taylor is over the top I think. If the leg hadn't snapped, there wouldn't be such a comment, and maybe it would only have been a yellow.

I pray for Eduardo to get well. I'm a Leeds fan myself, but I follow Arsenal in the premiership (because of doubts of us ever getting back there), and this couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He was getting into his stride, looking like the proverbial fox in the box Wenger has always looked for (Sorry Franny) and scoring some goals as well.

Get well soon old chap. Euro 2008 is certainely over for him. Here's hoping World Cup 2010 is where the comeback happens.

On another note, Van Persie better get back to full fitness quick because Adebayor's dream run isn't going to last the full season.

well i didnt see the game and until i saw that picture i would have agreed with just a yellow. and you being a footy fan, you of all people should know things are over dramatic on the field. we are all in agreement that the penalty should be large but no lifetime ban.

im sure he will be better for the 2009 and 2010 games. this year will mostly be recovery and physical therapy.

thats why... soccer is way over dramatic... its a contact sport.. happens..

leg break or not, i believe he'd have probably gone, because there's a big clampdown in england atm on tackles from behind that are dangerous, 2 footed, high etc.

I think if you don't think it deserves a red then you don't really understand football, you can't give just a yellow because it's early on, if it's an offence, it shouldn't matter when it's done, he went in with his studs up and deserves whatever ban he gets for it (prob 3-5 games) What is worse is the inconsistency of the fa, players are sent off now for language for example but a lot of tackles, bad ones, high ones, which aren't seen & punished live, they let the people get away with instead of punishing those responsible.

i personally think that the video challenge needs to be introduced into footy.

My point.

And I completely agree about the FA.
