Wow jaded central.

What if I buy something and then download it(e.g. scratched cd). Under the defenition of downloading is stealing... thats stealing. Is that stealing?

What about second hand cds. If I buy it... the price goes up a little bit... so others are less likely to buy it. If I don't buy it... the price is the same but then I don't have it. Say for example if I don't care about the covert art... but another person really does. If I buy it... then its too expensive for them and they don't buy it. In either case it doesn't effect the artist... but if I do buy it... isn't that me getting something at the expense of others? Thats closer to stealing than not buying it.

If this was a perfect world then if I scratch my cd... then I would only pay a dollar or so for another one. Thats not how it works however... piracy is just the opposite really.

Although certainly... titan quest should have done better. It's the only game to come close to diablo.

The fact that Iron Lore made a not commercially viable game probably has nothing to do with any of the posters here losing their jobs. Maybe if their game wasn't so buggy... or maybe if they had a mp service that made cheating impossible like the one in diablo 2... or a better matchmaking service it would have been better.

I'm a student... not relevent.

Going Omgz piraters are evil doesn't change anything. I buy as much as I can... but I don't just not download because its stealing or anything.

Very relevant. It just shows me that you don't know what it is to work (serious job, not part time taco stand ) and rely on people paying for your efforts so that you can provide for yourself and a family. Just ask your mommy to buy it for you and the world will be a better place.

Well some types of piracy reduce the amount of jobs in the game industry... so obviously people are going to lose their jobs. Then ofcourse faster internet and general trends means theres a ton of jobs in the gaming industry that didn't use to be there. So the internet means some types of games do better commercially and some do worse? Big deal... life changes.

I actually don't play video games, but i do believe people have the right to earn an honest living regardless of what they may be making (music, books, software...ect ect ect.). Behave and i might let you mow my lawn for 5 dollars.

ps nice edit.;)

Oh comon now. People said the exact same thing when vinyl was invented. All the live musicians complained.

Go look up steal this film at the piratebay... very interesting actually.

people paid for vinyl...people paid musicians. Its fair play as its competition. No one can compete with free.

Yes but not anywhere near as much as for live stuff. Probably less than 10% for the same amount of time its heard and the iron lore guy mentioned 10% of stuff being bought and not pirated.

You forget that vinyl helped broaden the exposure of the music and allowed recording artists to play places they never would have before.

Next excuse please hamburgler.

I like how people try and justify piracy--just say you're too ing cheap to buy it, and you want for free.

It's not a very hard concept.

If you can't buy a tv show legally, tough. If you can't play a movie in another region--tough. If you like a track and producer won't release it--TOUGH. It's not YOURS. That's the problem here, people think they have a right to everything they, see, smell, touch, and hear.

It's a privilege.

There's grey areas in everything, but admit to the fact you don't want to pay for , and don't clog it with the whole "region coding", "not available where I live" bull.
