I don't seem to recall seeing anyone on here who had modded their Wii.
Have you got a link to somewhere that this is being discussed? |

Thanks man - I just hadn't read anything about it before. :)
I'm also, really, really disappointed in online play. It flat-out doesn't work. I have yet to even be able to connect.
:(
Just sitting down now with it for the first real extended play. |

Initial impressions after playing a an hour or two last night, half hour or so here, and a bit last weekend:
- Great multiplayer/party game.
- Subspace Emissary is indeed absolutely horrible - I don't know that I'll ever even complete it once. Just one of the most unnecessary, clearly tacked on for no reason, pieces of garbage I have ever seen. I never thought I'd see such come from the first party.
- Single player is fine and all, fun to unlock things, enjoyable to play through, but no where near as fun as multiplayer.
- I must stress again: Online play does not work. My definition of "working" means I can play online when I'd like to, not at 3 in the ing morning.
To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that this still has a metascore above 90. Seems like a 7.5-8 for me so far, which isn't to say that it's bad, on the contrary it's very, very good. It just isn't brilliant - not by a long shot, and in lieu of how people have been talking about the SSE aspect as well as the delays, I guess I'd have expected some lower scores. |

As for the modded copies not playing the actual games... yeah. That seems to be the case. Kind of suck but what can you do.
On a side note: Import copies of the game can be played with a FreeLoader from Datel. My copy is Japanese.
@ RJT: Play With Anyone is full of fail. Get friend codes and you can play online just about all the time.
I'll post mine on Monday. |

Yeah - I mean, that's all well and good, but sometimes I just want to jump on for a quick match or two.
Regardless, I had a few friends over tonight (two of whom are seasoned brawlers) and we had an absolute blast.
Multiplayer definitely overcomes some of the faults from single player, but I am finding the "events" a pretty good SP experience. |

As far as the online play is concerned:
Nintendo has acknowledged that there are problems with the online service. Their servers are being flooded with people playing Brawl, and they underestimated the online service's popularity (which should have been expected, since they've said in the past that they don't believe online games are a 'huge' thing.) Obviously, they are now being proven wrong, and are working on getting more/better servers up and running to meet the demand.
I would assume that they are focusing what bandwidth they DO have available on friend-play, since Nintendo is focused on those silly friend-codes and 'online safety' and . So quick-play is what is really suffering here.
All we can do is have patience... it'll work soon enough. |

So basically Nintendo's utter and complete failure with the online aspect of Wii is really just magnified a hundred times because of the demand for SSBB play?
So far I'm sticking by my rating of a 7.5 to an 8. Brilliant multiplayer, events are fun, time attack is alright - on the strength of those alone I'd give the game a near perfect score.
Unfortunately, the horrible online infrastructure and absolutely atrocious "Subspace Emissary" bring the score right back down. Shame, because the potential for this one to rank up there with some of the greatest games of all time was there, it just fell short in a couple key areas that are particularly important to me. |

| ok, thats what I thought...I have a wiikey and I'm getting a copy tonight so I'll get to play it. When they get the online play fixed, we should set up a little TA match. |

I *think* we could do that now, as it's really only the "Play Anyone" feature that doesn't work - but it seems fine if you have people's friend codes.
