Ok well I've had a chance to beat the game and get all the so I decided to review the game from a "competitive player's" perspective.
I played the first Smash Bros for fun, Melee competitively-ish (some local things mostly) and I have to say I'm truly impressed with Brawl.
Playing Melee competitively (IE: Basic map, 1v1, no items or funky settings) was good until wave dashing and ing Falco wave dashing laser gunning you to death for 3 stock in a row. There were other exploits in Melee that just made the game more of a "how fast can I press these 4 buttons at once to pull off some retarded exploit that owns everyone" vs the game it was designed to be which was a super crazy fast paced fighting game that wasn't limited by generic combos and finishing moves.
Brawl has answered my prayers to be honest. Wave dashing is gone, as is edge guarding because it's become way too easy to get back on the edge now, with I'd say 85% of the characters.
Also the game is floatier than Melee which means a huge portion of the fighting is being done in the air, which is awesome. The characters are very well balanced in my opinion and so far the game remains relatively exploit free, and by that I don't mean there are NO exploits but that they seemed to have limited their usefulness, which is great.
Fox has been nerfed, which is a good thing, Marth has become a little more awkward to play and they've beefed pikachu and given "slow but hard hitting" characters more advantages. My point being... They've opened up the "fairness" a lot more by giving the big guys a chance vs the fast ******s like Sonic/Diddy/Meta Knight etc, which is reason # 10 billion why so far I think Brawl rocks.
To recap:
Floatier -> More fighting done in the air and off the edge of the maps
More balanced characters overall -> Plus a really good job making it a fair fight between a slow guy and a fast one.
Hardly any hardcore h4x expl01tz -> you 16 year old Koreans, now you'll actually have to play the game.

Hopefully someone who is more into the "free for all"/"Adventure mode" kinda thing can post their "review" so to speak.
Oh yeah, the maps seem godly too. |
