I don't see how mids could overpower in a "unity horn" type cabinet - as the drivers are both physically and electrically time aligned.. i.e. they couple effortlessly .. i.e. "the highs should 'balance' with the mids just fine" Read up on the white papers of the Cobra system.. its some interesting stuff on how they handle their processing/power.. The Germans have some really neat ideas that work well. Everybody's ears are different and some people notice different "colorances" from the same speaker.. its the way we are built.
Yes it was loud.. no I don't approve of SPL above 110DB.. but that is in the DJ's hand.. we just provide enough rig for the gig. Ultimately the artist controls the volume. It is very hard to keep clarity and intelligibility at high spl.. thats why certain type of high end cabinets are preferable for these types of events. The cobra rig was indeed tickling the limiters - but as I checked the boxes weren't breaking up and they can more than handle light compression (and I'm certainly not going up to Armin to tell him to turn it down).
The entire rig was provided by HTG - Disco is a great guy.. but he doesn't get sweaty with the rest of us. Most of our team was in the building for a good 8 hours of set up before the show.. then the entire length of the show.. and an additional 4 hours after the show. I seriously doubt you will find a more dedicated "promotional staff" in the game. I couldn't do it without those guys! There are some logisticall problems.. i.e. the stage isn't big enough to drop half the lights we had for the show.. there was delays in delivery's... and not enough time to really do up the light programming as I would have liked to do.. But the reality is these shows are still small venue shows and the budget is minimal if non-existent for all this extra stuff that I simply insist is there.
As soon as I get the picks Ill post them.. there were a couple other guys there shooting.. but my guy took over 1000 pics :)

My camera is not the greatest in a smoky environment.
The mids sounded the loudest because of the fact they they were head level. Because they were that level, it's probably what I heard the most out of the system. I agree the artist is responsible for controlling levels, and I think Blake did a great job doing that. His set's sound quality was great. Armin really turned things up when he performed. I never heard the sound at the back of the club, but again I am not complaining about anything except for ringing ears :)
The lights and visuals on stage were great. It's a shame you could not fit everything.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING THIS SHOW TO ORLANDO!!!! :crazy: :crazy: It was absolutely awesome! Hopefully it was worth your time, energy, and investment, and you will continue bringing quality EDM acts to town. Keep 'em coming.
As far as the sound, it was infinitely improved since Oakenfold @ Tabu a few years ago... In fact the DJ on before Armin sounded DAMN NEAR PERFECT! Crystal clear hi ranges with solid kick and vibtration on the lows. I think when Armin came on he tweaked up the volume a Little Extra, which lost a little quality balance in my opinion, but after I moved a little off of center from the Go Go Dancer rack, I found the sweet spot again for good balance. The room is just unique for acoustics, so you gotta find those sweet spots.
Probably the best sound engineering I have heard in a LONG TIME! You are obviously passionate about what you do. Keep up the good work.
Now on to the show:
Incredible! Who was the guy on before Armin? and what was the mix of Daft Punk- Around the World he played...? So kick arse.
Armin mixed it up perfectly. Threw a couple trible/house baselines in there, solid anthems, and plenty of rocking beats, for a great night of jumping, fist pumping, smooth dancing, arm raising, chill enducing moments.
Now- how about a tracklist from some of you true track nerds? I id'd a few already listed, but anyone take order notes? Better yet, any good recordings of the evening to throw on a torrent?
-Oh yeah- 1 last thing. The stage setup and video was great. It looked really good up there on stage. The lighting could have been a lot better. More strobes, lasers, and lighting engineering would have been cool.

I've been out of the scene for awhile, infact, the last time I saw my pals from TA was over a year ago, when Paul van Dyk played at Firestone. And, honestly, I forgot how awesome the music was, I forgot how much I missed you guys. Being there at Armin, brought back a lot of feelings I once had. The music, the people, and the feeling. That's truthfully all I really need. I'm very content, with that.
I've been out of the scene for a long long time. So mostly every track was new to me. I came in a bit after 11PM, while Blake Jarell was on the turntables, I stumbled upon the TA's and promptly took my side by them. The one track that I could ID was, Around the World (heh). It was a good grove though, definitely a nice opening set for Buuren.
I have the classic Armin mix CD, Bounderies of Imagination. But that was made a while back, while trance was new. I didn't know what to expect from him now. He did not disappoint. I really liked his set, playing a variety of trance, ranging from techy to epic. Good stuff. If there was something weird, with the sound, I can't place my finger on top of it, but something wasn't 'full' enough, if that makes sense.
The after party was nice, lots of shouting, cursing, cranberry-vodka, and dominoes flying around.
Seeing everyone, experiencing the music, and just being there was exhilarating. Sorry for the short review, but yea, I'm still tired from last night. I can't wait until I see you all again.
