What exactly is tech-trance?? who are the artists involved currently? is leon bolier tech trance? sander van doorn? i know the music i like to hear but appearantly i just cant name it right... i remember that like five years ago it was club trance... and then uplifting... and recently i thought it was called tech trance, but i honestly dont know anymore...

i like leon bolier, SVD, Richard durrand and many more, but these are the ones i find hard to define... the other ones like ronski speed and such i guess are considered uplifting... but with the latest ronski speed single "All the way" im not so sure anymore...

i guess i need help :) and i know it doesnt really matter as long as i love it, but it makes it hard to talk to someone when you dont know how to define it...

Yes, Sander van Doorn is (or was) tech-trance, as is Marco V and a few others.

Check out Marco V - False Light as an example, or Marcel Woods - Advanced.

How it differs to normal trance:

- can often be faster, though not always.
- "grittier" feel, with less "uplifting" emotion - techy.
- harsher, more driving percussion.
- more minimal/repetitious melodies with darker tones.
- more sudden changes in pace between verses/sections (ala False Light).

Does stuff like "Ronski speed - All the way (original mix)" considered tech trance or uplifting?? cos it has a sudden change and a techy kinda main theme, but it also has vocals and a melody... im still confused, the tracks you mentioned are familiar to me ("marco v - echoes" is top notch as well) but they are from the time i used to know what was what... im talking bout current days tunes...

not strictly true you can get very trancey tech trance like summer dream (stoneface & terminal mix).
It really is easy to spot the difference though if you listen to it enough its often more difficult to define the more trancey tracks but the tech trance that i prefer (the darker more techno based) is really easy to spot after listening for a while.

Tech trance is Rob Leiner and his early 90's releases on R&S as Source and The Source Experience. So-called tech trance that appeared at the end of the 90's is just a that combines the worst from both of the genres

im talking bout nowdays not 2000... so what should i call say "Leon Bolier Vs. Astrid - Crazy people (Alternative mix)" is that uplifting?? if it is then the concept of "uplifting" had a vast change thru the years...

this guy is correct. ignore the recent years dutch jerky tech trance of Leon Boiler and Richard Durand etc.

head straight for the original tech trance produced by Oliver Lieb, Chris Cowie.
Two excellent tech trance compilations:

A lot of tech trance you'll have like, one note played in an interesting rhythmical pattern. Also a lot of the time instead of building up from the breakdown and then going into the full on melody, it will break, melody will come in then it will do something different. Well hard to explain a lot of Marco V stuff is like this.
