Worst book in the bible...

So what do we do with homosexuals?

Lev 20:13 -- "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them."

Right, kill them (sounds like something God would recommend notwithstanding the whole Thou shalt not kill thing)... anyway... I'm coming for you Ted Promo!

What else does Leviticus 18 have to say...

Leviticus 18:19 (king James) -- "Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness."

That's right folks, it's a sin to have sex with a woman while mensturating. So what's the punishment?

Lev 20:18 -- "If there is a man who lies with a menstruous woman and uncovers her nakedness, he has laid bare her flow, and she has exposed the flow of her blood; thus both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

Exile... but only for 7 days.

Lev 15:24 -- "If a man actually lies with her so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean."

So now you have to burn any place you sleep for 7 days after tapping that period .

To me, this sounds more like the rules of man rather then of God... my guess is God would have known (even back then) that menstral blood isn't dangerous.

I really think most people, reading this entire book, would agree that Leviticus is more likely an attempt to pass secular laws off as devine laws rather then the actual word of God.

anyone that has done that many drugs and knows the bible so well scares me.

funny how god didnt bother to influence a book being passed off as his word isn't it? and how the messages contained inside the most painful read in history require such study and enlightenment to really be beyond much of god's chosen.

i think the real word of god would be much more elegant. kinda like the universe. not a mismatch of contradictory ideas where anyone could find whatever they were looking to find in order to think whatever they wanted.

not to mention the spectacularly poor choice from jesus to venture to earth before the onset of television. talk about a missed opportunity. imagine how much more impressive to see jesus kicking ass jet li styles against the huge corporate banks or poker machine addicts (or whomever was apparently chilling in the temple on the weekend). and think of the merchandising potential! (though, let's be fair, you guys haven't done too badly in that respect just by yourselves.) credit where credit is jew ;)

ing hell its late. bedtime.

I've often wondered about your first question as well, I've never found a satisfactory answer.

I think the real word of god is elegant, and rather simple. That said, anyone who takes the entire Bible to be the word of God is a fool. Much of the bible was written for purposes other then God's revelation to humans (Leviticus is a perfect example, The Revelation of John is another). Rather then looking at individual passages one must look at the work as a whole, disregarding that which is inconsistant with the overall message in order to gleen any truth from it (assumeing there is any truth to it to begin with... yes, I'm throwing you a bone here).

Hmm, I don't think it was a bad choice at all. The Abrahamic religious family is all about faith. Yaweh seems pretty clear that he wants people to choose to love him. Making a choice to love God requires that God's existance be in question... a matter of faith. If the existance of God were certain, a proven fact, then one would have no choice but to love God. Yaweh is all about giving us choices, not taking them away (thus the whole free will thing).

I hope you already went to bed, otherwise I think I'll lose the rest of my morning going back in forward with you on this.

it always cracks me up when people quote the bible as though the quoted passage was written directly by God. As you pointed out, there are parts of the bible that directly contradict other parts, but people sure as hell like to pick and choose passages from the bible to backup whatever argument they are making and so they can say God is on their side. When you really start to look at how the supposed word of God has been manipulated throughout the ages to further the ambitions of secular leaders and to control people you really have to take the Bible and the rules of the church with a grain of salt. I mean does anyone think God really cares if I eat meat on a Friday during Lent?

Yes, God makes a point of keeping on top of scientific developments.

Can we all just agree that god and the bible and all that crap is make-believe already and start our age of reason?
Alex
Hmm, so there IS a specific passage.

It's been a while since I've read it, but if I remember correctly most of the worst sins comitted have their own story in the bible, or multiple stories.

Are there any specific stories or passages concerning god killing gay men for having gay sex? (Not genesis, the sodomites got nuked but they were rapists).

I suppose that's why I didn't remember this so vividly.

Also, the whole thing is, those who use the old testament PURELY to make their arguments against CHRISTIANS is a bit whack. These nut case christians do the same at their own leisure, they ignore the new testament and quote the old when it's convenient.

God dished out a lot of ass kicking in the Old Testament, he had Israel kill women, children and he had people serve him loyally for years only to abandon them for one indiscretion (IE: Moses, David). The new testament is so different, and any christian who focuses too much on one and not the other is kidding themselves.
