i find such discrimination (as serious as they are) to be less important than historical segregation.

but gay bashing isnt a systemic abuse at the behest of the state.

So it's a lot like racism except racism has laws protecting against it fully. |
yes. they do now.

Gay people are oppressed, and more openly so, than black people today. It's not up to par with discrimination against black people 60 years ago, but let's put it this way, if you try to be yourself by kissing a guy like a normal guy would kiss a girl in any random suburb town, you'll get your ass kicked. I mean kicked. |
again, the oppression or violence committed by private individuals isnt the same thing as legalised segeregation. its really not the state's fault if there are multitudes of redneck bastards willing to engage in gay bashing. |

Indian descent. Born somewhere else, grew up in India. Incidentally, his parents were from the same state as my grandparents, and he went to boarding school in the same place I went to as well :) |
lol, India. |

Demographic groups using the same verbal affectations is nothing new. Does a guy talking with a lisp sound any less intelligent than a dude with a thick southern drawl, or an inner city dude with the whole 'ebonics' dialect thing, or a northerner with all thier 'eh's?
The us and indeed the world is full of different dialects; variations on a common theme. Some of them bother me too... but I think it's a little unfair to think it has anything to do with 'speaking like an adult.'
(hell, I can't STAND british accents... but I'm not going to tell the next brit I talk to to "speak like an adult" to me. Different strokes for different folks.) |
You do realise (sorry realize) that he's not British? |

Of course I do. I wasn't trying to make a personal attack on him... I was just stating my opinion that happened to be a pertinent example. |

| And how would you define a "British Accent"? |

The other question to consider is, do gays love god? Do gays love... FOOTBALL?!?!?!?!?! I bet those un-American fags only root for the Packers... |
I can answer this since I am The Professional Token Gay.
I do not love God. The Rabbi cut off part of my penis, and my mother later explained that it's purpose was to "bring me closer to God." I made a pact to myself that I will never love God until I cut off part of GOD'S penis to see if it brings God closer to me.
I love Football. It's everything a gay guy would dream of: running, tackling, mud, and man-on-man foreplay.

First of all, I think that the older generation gays are "in your face" because to them, it was/is a civil and human rights issue. They were the kids getting the beat out of them and their lives threatened because they were gay.
Those are my 2 cents. |
+1,000
EXACTLY!
There's also a lot of flaming in your face queers that are immigrants from Eastern Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Mexico where cultures can be more strict on being gay.
The now aging "1st generation full out" gays are not appealing to anyone, and there's not many of them left after the AIDS epidemic in the 80s. The younger gays (esp teens today) don't even look to older gays as role models. They look to straight people as role models, and end up fitting in society a lot better compared to 40 years ago. |

Sorry, but its not the same thing. Accents are incorporated due to exposure of said accent from the moment a child is born.
That is completely different to the choice a gay man makes to speak like an idiot. Or give himself deliberately girly mannerisms. Just because youre gay doesn't mean you can't behave like a man. It's just an act. A fake, unattractive act. Ive known many mincing poofs who were awesome blokes and not the least bit camp. |

| Seriously...and don't even give me the excuse that they act that way because they're more feminine. ing women don't act like that. |

Agreed. You win. Although don't forget until the early 70s "homosexuality" was considered a psychological illness and those people were treated as crazies.

You'd be surprised how many people who "work for the system" let gay bashings and abuse towards homosexuals in general slide, especially in rural America.

Legalized segregation includes ban on gay marriage (segregating gay people as "outsiders"). Even "civil unions" is segregation if the law cannot prove it to be equal to "marriage."
Overall you are right that is not AS bad for gays as it WAS for minorities 50 years ago. However, it is WORSE for gays than it IS for other minorities TODAY. |
