usually, self-proclaimed "nice guys" are simply s who can't get laid; their supposed 'niceness' is the crutch used to explain their inability to attract women.
normal nice guys, however, are good folks who lead happy and fulfilling lives. in what arena exactly are they finishing last? business? maybe; social life? probably not.

it's also odd listening to (educated?) adults use models of biodeterminism (cavemen spreading seeds, etc.) to seriously explain/rationalize infidelity. it's similar to the laughable -- and discredited -- theories of social darwinism (survival of the fittest) that the 'robber barrons' of the gilded age used to explain away social inequalities.
as in mating, we're also not biologically programmed to use utensils, live in settled communities or obey civic laws, but i have yet to hear of a murder suspect using the "genes made me do it" defense.
people cheat for a number of psychological reasons, the most simple being boredom and insecurity, which have little bearing on latent nearderthalisms.
the reason we ideally shouldn't cheat is the same reason we shouldn't stab those with whom we disagree: because our lives and societies are structured around implicit and explicit social contracts, not atavistic impulses. |

of course, i'm not saying all cheating can be explained by genetics, people cheat for a variety of reasons, including spite. women are more likely to do it in this instance because they're governed by emotions instead of logic. don't argue with me about that part.
true we shouldn't stab people, but don't tell me you or anyone else has never had the urge to. that comes from the lowest-level, reptilian brain where our instinctive drives from. i'll definitely say, and feel confident in doing so, that misplaced sexual energy is the main cause of murder, robbery, and other anti-social behavior in otherwise mentally stable people. |

Doesn't seem odd to me. People will regardless of whether or not social constructs exist. 'Coupling' on the other hand is a learned behavior, and the concepts of cheating and infidelity are just as invalid and inconsistent as any other social constructs we've made up. We give them validity. Being told your actions are wrong in the US, but fine in Japan, or even encouraged in East Africa is a testament to the inconsistency of the rules we govern ourselves by. Notions of what healthy relationships are and what cheating and infidelity are vary by culture, location in the world, and time period, whereas ing is just ing, regardless of where you are in the world and regardless of whether or not the time period you happen to exist in and culture you happen to be apart of considers it wrong in any way. It will happen regardless. What screws us over is all of the notions and constructs and other BS we've built around this one innate part of our being. Not saying that it's a terrible thing that we've done. We need these notions to preserve society as you've said. Most likely though, some concepts that govern our behavior need to be updated for the times we live in, especially the ones tied to religious doctrine. |

| Nope, I've never cheated. I think generally I am a pretty careful person that thinks things through before doing them and this has saved me many times. Now helping the ladies cheat, well that I might've done... |
