| Let it be known that you can skip the cut-scenes, if you choose. The pieces of storyline you miss by skipping would probably be explained through other parts of the game anyway. |

changed my routine schedule for the week after MGSIV launch
code:
0530AM WAKE UP, EAT, SHOWER
0630AM HEAD TO SCHOOL
0730AM SCHOOL
1000AM SCHOOL
1200PM SCHOOL
0300PM COME HOME. EAT
0330PM PLAY METAL GEAR SOLID 4;SAVE GAME
0400PM WORK
0700PM WORK
1000PM WORK
1200AM WORK
0100AM ARRIVE HOME FROM WORK. WANK.
0130AM WATCH METAL GEAR SOLID 4 CUTSCENE;SAVE GAME
0300AM SLEEP
I'm sure it will bother a lot of people when the moment arrives to watch Liquid Ocelet get head from Vamp (with a 20 minute build-up), only to realize its time for something more important in real-life (school/work).
Pausing would be out of the question.
Skip+save, and you miss a crucial part to the story (Ocelot killed Dumbledore).
Even if the game came with an ongoing THEATER MODE to view previously seen Cut-scenes, watching Vamp kiss Ocelot's ear and rub his knob for 20 minutes just to get where I left off, would be unacceptable.
Now, if I could save the game while paused in the middle of a 90 minute cut-scene......
Either way, greatest game ever made and anyone that disagrees is just jealous of our controller has more technology than an F-22 Raptor |

I love my long stories and cut scenes. I love sitting there and just relaxing for a bit while the game rolls on without me having to do anything for a while, then jumping in later.
But.....90 minutes straight? You've got to be kidding me. What is this a movie? 90mins of total FMVs would be insanely awesome but if it turns out that just one is that long then that's just crazy... |

So the lowest score this has gotten thus far is an 8, and here's a few snippets from the review that I think pretty well display the difference in opinion that seems to have cropped up here:
| quote: |
• In Guns of the Patriots' incredible, cathartic, climactic scenes, the lines are blurred so much that you can barely tell whether you're playing a videogame or watching a film. To some that might sound like an insult, but to Kojima and his fans, it's nirvana, something for which the series has been striving for ten years, and it could not be a more appropriate note to end on.
• An unbelievably lengthy and self-indulgent epilogue — you can't call it a cut-scene, it's an entire film in its own right, and a deeply boring one too — is how Solid Snake's career comes to a close. Too bad, but no hard feelings; you can ignore it if you wish. The drawn-out sentimentality is fitting, in a way. Snake may have started out as a gruff, two-dimensional cliché, but he bows out very gracefully in Metal Gear Solid 4, assuming the mantle of the world-weary samurai, or the enigmatic nameless cowboy from a spaghetti western, as if it were always his. |
So it sounds like the 90 minute cut scene is actually the ending, which could prove to be a bit of a decent reward for players (though you damn well better be able to access it at will - I don't want to finish the game and be forced to take an hour and a half to see the end if I don't have it).
I also think the fact that it's described as "self-indulgent" and "deeply boring" is far less surprising than I would have thought it'd be. Most MGS fans will obviously be singing the praises of the game from the top of the mountains solely by virtue of production value and content - if I were a betting man, I'd wager people who are just gamers and not MGS fanboys will see past the pretty flashing lights and see the game for what it is: a movie that you play.
I really wish Kojima had spent more time making the game play like a movie rather than forcing a bit of gameplay into a glorified movie. |

Your fanboyism never fails to amaze me.
Seriously Sam, every time someone either talks about not enjoying something you think is brilliant, or even tries to talk realistically about something you can't fathom as anything other than "the best", your response is almost always "Lol, your a pessimist" or "Lol, you don't even like this, why comment?"
You really are no different than a lot of the "You're just jealous/go listen to MP3's in your mom's basement" trance set, and it's really become a stale routine. |

Hit a little close to home, or are you just living in denial?
:conf:
Either way, all I'm doing is calling it like I see it. Life isn't all cuddle puddles and unwarranted praise, and I'd rather be labeled a pessimist than live my life with low standards. |
