Fun fact: To make the nazi head melt in the original IJ they used a cement skull covered in gelatin and melted it with two blow torches.

If that ain't special effects ... I don't know what is.

The "making of" dvd that comes with the Indiana Jones box set is fantastic.

I think one of the things that's most disappointing about George Lucas' modern projects is his reliance on new technology to create detailed environments for relatively less money than it cost him to have models, sets, and props built for his older films.

Part of what made the original Star Wars trilogy so appealing (and though I haven't seen the old IJ movies, I definitely know how they looked visually) was the attention to detail - they made the most fantastic of sets look like they could actually exist in the world as we know it.

In the new SW Trilogy and this IJ film, the environments are so artificial and sterile that they've lost all of that personality that really made Lucas' brilliance.

It's pretty bad when what is supposed to be mid-1950's America looks more like a cartoon version of reality than how any of these period pieces looked 10 years or so ago.

It's like the difference between DP & Justice. :p

"I called it, I told you so, I saw it coming," etc. would pretty much describe anything I would post here. I mean I haven't even seen it yet, but the reviews here from people whose tastes I find similar to mine pretty much tell me that I was right.

I hope the old movies weren't as bad as this one.

Hoooooooooooooooooooold the phone. You mean to tell me that you haven't even seen the original three? :wtf: You're not allowed to go to DEMF until you do.

I would bet that on average the majority of the sets used consisted of a small set of props, and blue screens. Every single environment just looked fake.

Not to defend the movie or anything, but I've seen many people reference a Spielberg interview in which he says something to the effect of, "We're basically making this movie as a tribute to X style of old films, so it's supposed to look fake."
CONNERMAN2000
Anyone see the Conan on Wednesday night with Harrison Ford? Conan reveals that the studio did not release any tapes of IJ for them to show, so he asks Ford why.

In a joking manner, he says: "well, its not very good."

After he says that, he fills in something along the lines of "the studio wants people to pay to see it, etc., etc." to make it seem like his original comment was a joke. I don't think it was, and considering the bluntness (and hilarity) of Ford's behavior on that episode, it seemed like he was speaking from his own mind that, in the end, he didn't like the movie.

So they had a good hour of great indy stuff that measured up to the originals, but then they ran out of ideas, lucas and spielberg went ape crazy and added aliens and spaceship and stuffed every scene of the last hour with ridiculous ammounts of bad CGI.

Such a ing disapointement.

absolutely agree. which is another reason battlestar works so well, because the design of everything is gritty and reeks of 1940s navies. all the inside sets you see regularly are all real.

i think there have been plenty of games released in the last couple of years that have looked better than the prequels and certainly been more engaging with the audience.
bucke
so are there nazis in this one?
