Because it's a way of creating several kinds of bonds. You called just because you wanted to make a question, but she probably intepreted it as an excuse to engage in conversation. That happens both to men and women, as far as I know.
I personally like this kind of seemingly endless chatter quite a lot, and I used to spend hours on the phone talking both to girls and guys (mostly girls, though). Most of the time, I'd just ask a really random question (can you see a pattern here? :p), and 2 hours of conversation would ensue :) |

because they like attention.
there's only a few people that i can stand being on the phone with for more than 2 minutes... mostly just my mom and my friends that live far away, and even then it's only because i don't get to see them often enough and e-mail/IM just doesn't cut it sometimes. |

| i don't LOVE talking on the phone but i do enjoy the random talking and find myself talking to some people for 2+ hours at a time...most of the conversation is worthless but keeps you updated on some people's lives...only with people who don't live near me though |
