my dog just died

I just put Codie to sleep. the poor old dog had made a turn for the worse this weekend (i got a phone call from the vet while i was in new orleans, saying that she was vomiting, having diarrhea, not eating, falling over, and drooling). Her kidney enzymes were way high (like 2x as high as they were the last time she got ill. so they were failing more than they had the last time...and because she had lost so much protein and everything, her recovery would not be 100%. the pain medicine they gave her didn't do a whole lot either

i was at home, sitting with her on the floor, just watching her lie there, and i knew it was only going to get worse. she had urinated twice at my house, uncontrollably, and i could tell she was in pain. even if she did recover a little, it would all keep coming back, and the quality of her life would not be what should be. i feel like . work is gonna suck tomorrow.

she was such an awesome dog

Sucks mate... Just remember it's just a dog. Get another one.

in time, i'll probably get another one. but for now, i can't even look at her dog bed without crying.

its amazing how much you get attached to something that gives you unconditional love

i'm sorry mate, don't know you at all but as a dog owner i can't even imagine how i'd feel. and those pics show that you two were really close. :(

my dog is 10 years old right now and i really don't know how i'll react when that day comes. just know that she is finally done with all the suffering and in doggy heaven eating all the steaks and pissing all over the place where she pleases.

RIP

My cat was just as sick before I had to put him down. Lost all his weight, stopped eating, started hacking up every 2 minutes...was bad...Saved his ashes...:)

He died in my arms too...I don't think I could ever watch another one of my cats be put to death as I hold him...That's like over 10 years of companionship over in 10 seconds...... :( :( :(

That is one beautiful looking dog, Will. I'm sure she was very good to you over the last decade.

The worst thing about pets is that most of them don't live 1/8 of the time many humans, and I think for most folks we'd prefer the roles reversed. I'd certainly rather keep Sasha, Brooks, and Tiger (my family/myra and my pets) longer than the bulk humanity.

Sorry for your loss, Will. At the very least you'll never forget how awesome she was.

You mustn't be a pet owner.

When you have an animal for a period of time, it can become much like a child to you. You take care of it, it depends on you, you love it and it loves you back. "It's just a dog" is not really an appropriate thing to say to someone who has lost a pet. If you had a friend that lived with you for 10 years die, you would probably be upset as well.

Just because it is an animal does not mean you cannot grow attached, or love it like you would a human.

Really sorry to hear this Will. I know how much you loved that dog. At least Codey isn't suffering anymore.

((((((((((BIG MASSIVE HUGS))))))))))))))))

Keep your head up... Codey had a very long and good doggy life :)

Not to jack the thread, but yes.. i think i can like a pet with out being attached. I have had cats in my life (2) and a dogs (2) and i have lost both of them. Myabe becuase i treat them like dogs. Dont come into my ing room, dont come near the dinning table.... etc.

Did i not make fun of your cat dying once and said to put it in the microwave? maybe uncalled for but i was just doing it for hte lulz. sorry if i did.

Maybe i dont tact :s
