i call them luxury lanes, but its only for that one 300m section east of dufferin to spadina and only eastbound.

Probably engineering mistake somewhere, but now you can't do anything with that space.

the original design had the lanes end further up and that created a bottleneck so they widened the lanes instead.

Even we do have more highways than TO:

Blue is soon breaking ground, and dark orange is under construction.

^^^ finally!

That A-20 stretch used to be a bitch.

Quebec may have more highways, perhaps.

better highways...highly debateable :D

j/k...I haven't driven on them in a while. Are they in better repair now? Can you actually get back on the highway at points where you get off? Some places used to be brutal, lol
Abercrombie
Oh... the A-30 bypass looks like a godsend for those who need to go to Quebec City and the maritimes. Big congenstion remover from the island.

Highways are much better, but still not perfect, its the service roads and elevated roads that are brutal. We are spending 2 billions a year, budgets have doubled, almost tripled.

City roads are another story, but its getting better too, at a slower pace.

the shape the gardiner is in, it's becoming unsafe. 10mil a year for repairs will only grow and grow.

Then we should build a better one, like the proposed Viaduct. I never said I wasn't in favour of that - just that alternative routes need to be in place before tearing down any part of the Gardiner.

from the information i found, the westside highway was knocked down and was not replaced by a better highway.

Say what? The name of the project was the "West Side Highway Replacement Project"! It took forever to build the replacement, yes, but it was built. I think it was finished back in 2000 or around then. Not only that, but it supports much more traffic volume than the old highway did.

I think it's perfectly fair to tell citizens that you're tearing down a major highway in order to build a newer higher capacity highway, as long as you actually build it (which they did) and provide alternatives in the interim (which they did).

heard a news report that the studies done by the city have concluded that the delay will be about 2 minutes..the studies were conducted by impartial traffic experts who have validated the city's findings..

during the report on am640...i heard words like "fear mongers" and "underused" ...not like i'm having an "i told you so" moment or anything..:)
