The gays don't drink as much as a commercial/hip crowd will. Bottom line isn't the sexuality of the patron, it's how much they spend at the bar.
CiRCA wants to make money, bottom line. |
hahah okay
I see more people at the bar in the ballroom than in the kidrobot room or the cinema room at any given moment throughout the night.
source: being there basically every friday since Ive moved here |

Isn't it a bit hypocritical that Circa is hosting the "official" Pride Week closing party this year, while quietly shoving their loyal gay club-goers out the back door? |
For s sake.
maybe I didn't make that clear enough.. but I'll try it one more time.
If the room was successful in it's "gay" format... ie: lots of money being made on the bar, then they wouldn't mess with it... because they're in business to make money. they need the money to pay the rent, pay their staff and all their other operational expenses.
if a room is not generating enough revenue... what do you do... you change the format... it's a pretty simple concept... and it's not something that people with half a brain do out of spite. they do it because it's in the best interest of their business ie: their lively hood.
and re: the pride afterparty.. i think that shows right there that the club is not anti gay.. not to mention all of the other gay oriented special events they've had and have coming up. .. do a little research on gatien's past clubs! |

Clubs don't change format when somethings going well and successful. If they're changing the format of the room, that means that there weren't enough people going for that room. |
exactly.
Sad that this venue didn't work out, I never got to experience it.
Ya snooze, ya loose. |

or that they booked the after party before they decided to shut down the room... can't back out now.. too much moneys already been spent .. I'm not going. Kick everyone out then say come back for one more! No. that. I'll listen to my friends who work there and who are fighting for their jobs and for the room they built ;)
edit. im not saying you're wrong either.
I just don't get how its a money issue when that bar and room is always rammed. Every friday the "gay room" is easily more consistent with people at the bar/filling the room then say the washroom bar or cinema room. Of all rooms to change.. bleh. |

So are you saying that you know officially the reason they would shut down is because they don't want a gay crowd??
I highly doubt it.
Barb, clubs are first and foremost business, the owner's interest is money generation. It's safe to say that it wasn't drawing the crowd and there was money to be made in other places. |

I'm just going by what I was told, like i said I dont disagree with what you're saying, I'm just saying by being there, seeing the crowd, talking to people who work there etc theres never been an issue filling that room and making money.. its out of the blue. it might just be stirrers running their mouths because theyre losing their jobs and room but still... no matter what.. circa is cutting the best room it had for another pathetic hiphop room |

It's really a shame.
As I opened this thread I was hoping it would be a joke. |

A busy room doesn't always equate barsales. Geez, read activate's post again to understand this concept.
Why do you think the cover for DJ driven gay special events is higher than for straight ones? It's because gay people don't drink as much. I go to a lot of gay events (as a straight guy) and I often see people paying their cover, maybe having a drink or 2, popping a pill, buying a bottle of water and constantly refilling it at the bathroom. |
