some convincing arguments for splitting it up equally ... maybe that is the best way...

Don't put me on that list! I changed my mind after I read your argument.

Plus...you gotta forgive me. I've never had a roommate :)

what if it was 3 friends and not a couple + 1 friend

would you make the 2 friends sharing the room each pay the same as the other friend who had the room to him/herself

lol. the only way to do it is equally 3 ways.

why would the person staying alone pay more? that's just silly. you share the other areas equally. kitchen, living room, bathroom.

just because they get their own room doesn't mean they pay more. you choose to live in the same room as boyfriend and actually it's a bonus that you have a boyfriend there.

i agree with margs spithoff!

In that case, I wouldn't, they would pay less. I think of a couple as a 'single unit' - they are sharing the same bed/etc, and generally share more things than friends would. Couples have less issues with privacy when sharing a room than 2 friends would.

If it was 2 people sharing 1 room, and needing two beds - they would have less space, less privacy, etc. If one of the friends had a date come over and end up spending the night - the other friend that was sharing the room would be put into a tough spot.

If one of the friends likes to sleep in the nude, or even running from the shower to the bedroom to get changed - they may be far less likely to get down to their nakedness to get changed if the other person is in the room.

Sharing a room as friends, and sharing a room as a couple are completely different things IMO, and in which case - the people sharing the room (as friends) should pay less than the person getting their own room.

Split 3 ways. I did it like that in the past and there should be NO issue with it.

Everything, utilities included, are split 3 ways except for the BR space, and you shouldnt have to pay for two people wanting to share a relationship/room/bed.
If it was 2 FRIENDS, you would have had to pay for a 3 bedroom apartment, right? (and thus splitting everything 3 ways?) Why should you have to pay more just because they are a couple rather than friends?

"Compact" is the term I would use.

split three ways equal babe.

technically: two rooms, split two ways.... BUT if that was not previously stated than I have to say I would expect a three way split.
