| Theres no way I'd pay the same money to split a room with my girl as my friend who had his room all his own. Having a room all your own plays a pretty big role when living with three people in a small place. |

| to add to this argument, my boyfriend and i don't WANT to share a room. we've planned since day one to have separate rooms. I like my own space. I study at night, often through the night. and I like to sleep on my own at least once or twice a week. upon arriving here we realised that things were pretty expensive. although we saved a decent amount through doing all these last 6 months, we were still having difficulty paying for two rooms. sharing a room was to save money, not b/c of a choice. until last week laura was expecting to share a 3bdrom 3ways which would cost more than sharing a 2bedroom 60/40. |

ok, so you went from splitting everything equally with an original goal in mind....to changing the plan and trying to get the other to pay more? the price differential with the 60/40 split in comparison to the original plan is completely irrelevant and definately a selfish way of looking at things. if you want size down to save money, that's your choice...but in my opinion that does not change the original agreement whatsoever. you're going to have to deal with what you have and make some compromises. adjusting your schedules a bit for the good of everyone would be a start. the minute you stray from keeping things even keel is the minute you start to have problems. |

we're not sizing down just to save us money. she can't afford a 3bdrm either. says that is out of her budget.
i think the easiest way would be to do a 3bdrm. we could afford it, but that would mean cutting down on other things. but then we come to the problem that she can't afford 3ways on a 3bdrm. |

If you care about your friendship ... split 3 ways equally.
Going on the rationality of 60% & 40%... 1 person paying $600 while the other 2 pay $450... how is that fair? So what if 2 people have to pay $50 more each? Otherwise the best friend now has to pay $150 more than the couple!
It sounds like someone is looking out for the best interest of themselves and their boyfriend... and not their best friend! This is how friendships end... trust me... been there, done that! Not a good scene!!! :( |
