My First Speeding Ticket . What to do??

| Hi guys i got my first ticket ever today for speeding. I was driveing 60 in a 40 zone in Nassau county, New york. the office askid me how much were u driving on, i said 60 i actually was 70.I have no idea what to do now? i tried reading thru the ticket it does not say what amount i have to pay or anything. Do i have to appear in court? or do i get any points on my lisence? |

Sounds like you probably just got a warning.
Not sure how your laws work. But over here they will give you a ticket with the offense committed and charge for it. If its your first ticket its usually just a notice saying "Hey, you did something wrong.. keep this paper just in case you feel like trying it again... happy days.
Although 70 in a 40 zone? The hell were you doing man!?!
Not half as bad as my very first run in with the cops, Got pulled over in my GFs car.. Was doing 120 in a 60 zone.. Pulled up right behind "Highway Patrol" on a local street.. He just basically said "Oi.. Naughty boy.. Don't let me see you do that again"

2nd time:
Driving my dads big dirty old 4WD, i got pulled over for 'random license test' (On my learners without a open driver in passenger side) He saw my license.. Guess it was just too much paper work because he said "Ah, drive safe and get home.. Don't do it again"
"OK!"
3rd time:
Driving my first car, Nice old school ford Escort.. I wanted to go to the service station for a pack of batterys and a iced coffee. Cop pulls up right behind me.. Get slapped with:
1)Failure to display L plates on front and back of vehicle
2)Failure to obey the rules and have a licensed driver with me
3)Driving a defective vehicle (Exhaust wasn't screwed on right)
Sold the car, paid the fines, Never drove since. |

speeding tickets counts for speeds over 100mph ;)
by the way here in greece for such an overspeed u get a 350E (540Å) fine. |

| wait a minute... you were going 70, he asked you how fast you were going, you told him 60, and he gave you the ticket for 60mph? Makes me wonder if he didn't have his radar gun and you could have said 50 and got away with that. I guess you'll just have to man up and pay the money dude... if you have the option of taking that class to get the points off your license, do it. You'll spend a day bored out of your mind in a classroom, but at least your insurance rates won't go up if you wipe the points from your license. |

wow nice catch. you know police use verbal traps to get you to incriminate yourself.
always say you were going the speed limit, the officer will correct you if you're wrong ;) |

| yeah i said 60 and i was actually 70+ , but 60 just came out of my mouth just coz this was my first ever encounter with he cops |

call the department of police's traffic liaison unit, give them your name/license number/rego number and ask them to give you details of your fine. |

Because you already admitted you were at fault there's nothing you can in court at this point (fighting tickets hardly works anyway). There should be a number on the front or back of the ticket telling you which courtroom to call. If you're lucky the officer already wrote the number of the court on there for you. Just call and they'll give you all the info. If you have the option to take traffic school, which you should have because this is your first offense, take it. It won't show up on your record and your insurance rates won't go up. It's a bit more expensive than just paying the ticket off but it's well worth it. Also see if you can just take traffic school online, much muuuch better than spending 8 hours in a classroom doing all. The price you end up paying is determined by a few factors: offense, age, and number of previous offenses.
