I get that there are those that aren't in to the sort of stuff he is playing which is cool, each to their own, but for me i was just glad to hear something other than track after track of predictable, generic, bull trance.
Non stop uplifting, melodic, epic, fvcking nonsense for a whole night might have sounded really good 10 years ago but it sounds tired and stale now imo and sander is one of the few adding a touch of class and respectability to the genre.
As much as i am not a fan of 95% of the psy trance out there (have to admit i really like some of the stuff our local boys are doing) i think the psy stuff coming out is needed by the trance scene for the very same reason - to breathe a little life into things.
I thought Menno was really good too but was so in love with what sander played that i had almost completely forgotten Menno's set by the time i left.
Was a fvcking laugh bumping in to so many TA's at random too lol :stongue: |

yeah i deff agree with sander- was just good to hear something that i wouldn't normally hear: in fact, it was one of those increasingly rare occasions where i didn't know 90% of the tunes being played, which is awesome! :D :D
was also glad sander played some awesome tech trance, and not just the prog electro house stuff his radio show usually consists of.. the man still knows how to play a club gig :D
menno was a win, of course.
JOC was pretty dissapointing. mostly because i was expecting the best set ev0r (as per asot 350)... he was all over the place, from good tech, to random uplifting cheese... and yeah, poorly structured at that...
plus, wtf not playing his own stuff!? where was new jersey!? he's released 5 tracks in the last month, he didn't play one of em..
really annoyed i missed emery- been wanting him to come out for ages, then when he finally does he gets locked opposite sander... :( ah well |

sorry mang but i disagree, even if there is not that much of it being released now compared to before (and there is still a fvcking ton of it coming out) it has been exactly the same formula/sound for the last 6 or 7 years.
Problem with that is that the scene/people have moved on, all genres have grown and changed but that epic/melodic stuff still sounds exactly the same as it did in 2002 - i loved it for a couple of years but then it just got boring and the fact that it STILL sounds the same makes it even more boring and sound even more overplayed then it probably is.
I'm with you all the way on the late 90's stuff mate, imo the best trance has ever been, but this is quite different. it's like a bunch of trance producers get together once a week to hold a lookhowingepicicanmakethistuneomgitsanemotionalrollercoaster contest.

same here mate! despite spending the last few years considering sander the one man i would have sex with road kill to be i haven't really liked his newish stuff that much so wasn't expecting to love his set the way i did. :D |

| I hear what you're saying bateman...scenes must move on and evolve (which is a good thing), but I went to Godskitchen to hear trance, not tech-house, techno or electro-house, which is basically what van Doorn was playing. |

All i ever read from you is sooking, if you had of downloaded any of the sets i had posted from sander you probably wouldn't have gone in with the wrong expectations. |

I asked myself the same question on Saturday night.
Maybe I'm just over regular trance or the direction it's taken? I'm not sure, because I enjoy 90% of the house, techno and psy-trance acts I see, but trance DJs just seem to fall down, hence why it probably seems like I'm "always" whinging (because I don't post about other genres on here). I'm not sure about the other people on here, but I see just as many DJs from other genres as I do from trance.
On the trance side, Mark Sherry was awesome this year, and I really enjoyed Paul van Dyk, Christopher Lawrence and Max Savietto too.
