Moving to Atlanta...

Hello Atlanta Tranceaddicts,

My name is Anthony and I'm a LONG time Tranceaddict forum reader, but this is my first time posting.

My girlfriend and I will be moving to Atlanta next week and we're really looking forward to living in a city that has a decent club/trance scene. I grew up and went to college in Cincinnati, Ohio, a horrible place for electronic music. I've been into trance music for about 8 or 9 years. I think the first CD I bought was Paul Oakenfold - Tranceport back in 1999 and I've been hooked ever since. I bought my first set of turntables back in 2003 and I hope to meet some local DJs in the area.

I'm working on building a DJ booth right now for the new place in Atlanta. It's almost finished and will look something like the attached picture (if I attached the picture correctly). I've been spinning nothing but vinyl for the past 5 years but will probably purchase some CD players in the near future.

I'm looking forward to seeing some big name DJs and checking out Midcity Cafe as well. I think I'll be living relatively close to WetBar/Midcity Cafe, our apartment is @ 900 Peachtree St. in Midtown.

I'm also looking for a job. I have a few interviews setup but I'm still looking. If any of you work somewhere that could use someone with a business degree, let me know.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow tranceaddicts @ the clubs soon...

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Welcome, Anthony. You'll like the scene here. We have a large enough population of EDM fans that we can regularly bring in big names but a small enough population that most of us know each other, to some extent at least.

By the way, I live exactly 1 block from you, so I'm sure I'll see you around. You picked a good spot to live.

I love The Simpsons Disco Stew, great avatar. :)

Thanks for the reply and I look forward to meeting you. I think I'm really going to enjoy living in Midtown. Rent is a little more expensive than I had hoped, but I think it will be worth it.

With the price of gas though, not having to drive places on the weekend really evens out the higher rent. I've been in midtown for a couple years now and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Welcome.

welcome to atlanta, i agree you picked a good place to live.

my wife and i moved from piedmont/midtown (renting) to a nice house (owning) in woodstock but gas prices and travel time make me question the move now. we might be moving back in town if we can get enough $$ to own a decent house back in town, we just miss everything we used to do and all the regular spots we used to go. the burbs kind of blow but you picked a nice spot

i'm an ohio transport myself although a few hours north of you, brace yourself the summers are brutal down here :nervous:

I feel your pain. I've lived in Statesboro, Georgia for the past year and can't wait to move to the city. We sold one of our cars and we're looking forward to being able to walk and/or take public transportation (Marta). Now if I can only find a job on the Marta route I'll be set.

I've only been to Atlanta once so I don't know much about living in Atlanta or Midtown, but I think the place we are living has some units for sale that are decent. We are living in the "Lofts @ 900 Peachtree." We are renting but I think there are some units for sale.

I agree, the Summers here are crazy hot compared to Ohio. However, I do enjoy playing golf in December.

Hi Anthony and welcome. I've been in Atlanta for two years now (did my MBA at Emory) but have been relatively quiet on the ATLTA part. A few of us met up last summer to spin but between my crappy internship schedule and everybody else's schedules it didn't become a regular thing. I've had decks since 04 and hardly ever use them but definitely want to get good at them. I'm in the process of looking for a job as well (just graduated in May) and am hopefully about to start spinning more often to learn. I'll be moving to Midtown this weekend as well and want to check out Midcity Cafe so hopefully we can all meet up soon.

What kind of job specifically are you looking for?

Glad to have you Anthony! I'm Sam. You'll see me everywhere if you go out.

As far as your location... perfect. You're in the center of the best/cleanest part of town, and there is plenty to do. There are tons of offices around where you live, so you may be able to walk to work if things go as smoothly as you'd hope.

I can only wish you luck in your job search, and if you need anything just let me know. :)

Welcome.

Oh Sam, I saw that Steel place yesterday when I was downtown. :p

Thanks for the reply Keith, Sam, & Enydo.

And Sam, I've read so many of your posts over the past year I feel like I already know you.

Meeting some tranceaddicts at Midcity Cafe would be great. I've read the posts on this forum about the Sunday night open tables & drink specials, and it sounds like a good time. I could see myself stumblin' home on a Sunday night, especially while I'm still looking for a job and don't have to work Monday mornings (yet).

I'm looking for any job that will allow me to pay my expensive Midtown rent and buy 2 Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3 CD players. :)

I'm not sure what I want to do besides be a superstar DJ (ha ha). I don't want this to sound too much like a resume but I have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Operations Management & International Business from the University of Cincinnati. I've worked for 2 banks, Fidelity Investments, and now I'm a Financial Aid Counselor. I think I may want to be a Financial Advisor, and as of now I have an interview with Edward Jones & Northwest Mutual. I'm also interested in supply chain/logistics jobs...
So basically, anything that I am qualified for that will allow me to make a decent living will make me happy. It would also be nice if I could walk/take Marta to work.

Ah, damn -- as for the Last Sunday (open turntables) event, I requested confirmation from DSIR Music that the event was planned for this month. It turns out that it wasn't, as DSIR's in Miami, and the Last Sunday is canceled indefinitely unless we can work something out. I'm hoping that we'd be able to hold open turntables night regardless, as it was an awesome opportunity for Atlanta EDM fans to share their musical tastes and practice some spinning with a friendly audience.

Hence, I'd hold off on making any Midcity plans this Sunday until further notice, since the cafe's typically closed on Sunday?

Oh, and welcome to Atlanta, abunch!
