the point of expressionist art is to express the artist's soul.
now what's the point of hotel art? it's to make people feel comfortable and generate $$$
it might be pointless to you as the one looking at the artwork, but i can assure you it's critical to the life of the artist
btw - rob's right - i wasn't targeting anyone, just making a general observation based on what i've noticed. I would say I've followed a very similar route, though in the past year I have really become interested in finding a more basic, 'raw' sound. |

tell me about it. I always tell people the same thing. I saw Umek play an underground rave in europe and he played 140bpm techno...dude, in' crazy.
now, he's playing very very different. I don't know if it's good or bad, but i miss the good ol' "voices of africa" days of umek :wtf: :wtf: |

I just think that basically my tastes haven't changed all that much, only the label of the genre where the sounds/styles I happen to enjoy has.
So much of the new techno/tech-house I have and play has elements of 99-2002 prog house/trance/etc. it's not even funny, and none of it has any of the elements of the so-called "prog house" or "prog trance" that's currently being released. |

I was half-joking. I often enjoy abstract art.
It's just that I think abstraction can be used as an easy escape route for people who are afraid to try more straightforward expression because they actually have nothing interesting to say. So I'm hypercritical if an abstract form of expression starts to become a "bandwagon" thing.

how can you say this with such ease? really, have you ever been to a museum? if so what artist would you consider abstract? |
