RULES for calling in sick

1) Sick days are for when you are sick

At my current job, sick days get held against me at bonus time, so that's motivation to go in pretty much no matter what every day.
More incentive to take care of my health and get my zzz's.

That is actually a great idea. Give the people that are sick less, take care of their health more a better bonus.

I never call in sick and I'm never late. In fact, I'm the one who always picks up the slack when some is a no-show...which is usually after I've already worked 8-12 hours of my own shift. 14 and 16 hour shifts are ass, but I actually don't mind all that much. What does piss me off is that there's never been any repercussions for the people who aren't reliable or accountable, and they all still have jobs. Dumb ing lazy irresponsible cunts.

That's my point exactly!! I never call in sick (maybe once or twice a year when i'm dying), but it seems like the irresponsible workers that stroll in a half hour late and leave early everyday AND call in sick once every 3 weeks get paid the same as you!! And the worst part of all is that i have to pick up their work and put in overtime when they leave early and/or call in sick!! WTF!!!

It's not as explicit as that, but certainly you are expected to come in even if you're a bit under the weather, so if you seem to be taking days off because you're hungover, sketched out, tired or just don't feel like coming in - that will be noted.

Even if you're just battling a simple head cold, sure it's preferable to let the thing run its course in a day or two rather than supress the symptoms for 5, but cold medicine has advanced to the point where you can still come in and be productive.

I've always been on the fence about this one.

On the one hand, I really really hate having sniffly, coughy, wheezy coworkers come into my office and stand a foot away from me and probably touch my mouse or screen. It's so much harder to prevent catching something from the office than it is from a social event. And I despise having to choose between using up my limited sick days to actually get better and loading up on medicine so I can come in anyway and inflict that on everybody else.

On the other hand, people take sick days for the stupidest ing reasons like hangovers or breakups and get away with it all the time. Not only is it a lie and therefore unethical, it's a big -you to everybody else who tries to be halfway honest about it.

I think businesses should give a small number of sick days but send employees home (with pay obviously) if they come in sick as a dog. It probably costs more for the businesses in the end of everybody catches it.

I go in hungover, sketchy, tired.... I put myself in that situation, and if works sucks because of it, so be it.. I knew what was I doing before the fact.

Being sick, I try to at least go in, most times getting your ass out of bed, showered and to work is more than half the battle... once you are there, you can battle through it.

Days I do call in sick tho... Migraines, can't be bothered to get up to go the bathroom somtimes, working! And flu's straight up, stomach flus, puking, vomiting, pissing out yo ass etc..

I think i've used more sick days when it's more productive or lucrative to not be at work than go... ie. side jobs, getting done around the house, saving money on a trip by leaving a day early or coming back a day later etc...

I don't get paid sick days, and usually i just tell myself, if somebody came up to you while you are sitting there in bed contemplating calling it and gave you a days pay in cash NOT to call in sick and go to work, would you? That is how I usually justify wether or not to call in...

At least once a week... It's not always sick and sometimes it's just late, and sometimes I don't even bother calling in...

called in sick monday to get a 4-day weekend.

besides that - i never have, i can work from home.

(before anyone asks, i had no work to do at home on monday, as it would have been my first day back post month-long vacation)

I broke my record June 22 of this year. I was going strong since November.

Wasn't even that necessary... I was just REALLY tired. Waste of a sick day!!!!!!

Very rare that I call in for sick day.

Maybe once a year if that.

Sick days are actually for being sick. People that abuse sick days... Meh

Yeah, I can't cry wolf in my profession either...cause if I actually do get sick sometime, I wouldn't want to put the residents at risk by going in to work.

But that's why I take better care of myself now. Can't remember the last time I was sick with anything more than the sniffles. :)
