im thinking about skipping hong kong and putting it off for another trip by itself. i think in order for me to get the most out of this trip i should keep it simple and stick to vietnam, cambodia, and laos, which still doesnt sound very simple, but whatever.
it seems like alot of people book guides and all, i haevnt thought much of it yet, i kinda wanted to explore on my own and not be taken on some cliche tour that everyone has seen.
im gonna go pick up a lonely planet book on vietnam tomorrow because ive heard they are better them the frommers books, then try and do a little bit of research, but im aiming at 5 weeks. 5 weeks just sounds good to me, it beats 4 |

Lonely Planet books are pretty good, but just make sure you get the latest one available for that country, as the details (places going out of business, or new laws etc.) can change pretty quickly. |

You can do easily do Hong Kong in 2-3 days. I'd suggest stopping by there first so you can adjust yourself to the drastic time zone change before you hit the meat of your trip. |

If you go from HK to Vietnam, consider flying to Bangkok and then onto Hanoi with AirAsia, its actaully cheaper than most flights from HK to Hanoi... Plus you also get to see Bangkok. 5 weeks is cutting it thin, prepare to waste a fair bit of time on travelling if you don't get domestic flights.
I might of said this before.. But do Vang Vieng in Laos!!! |

| ill cost me $1100 round trip to fly from reno to san fran, then from san fran to hong kong, from hk to saigon. i dont think im gonna do hk this trip, im gonna pack light and very informal. i plan on bumming it and seeing as much as possible in those 3 countries. if i only bring one bag, is there anywhere safe i can leave my stuff or do i have to keep it on me at all times? |

| Most airports and train stations have lockers with hourly or daily rates. Its a good idea to get one whenever you arrive in an unfamiliar city to stash your goods before you go out exploring. |
