I enjoyed it. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's an earth shattering revelation, but it's easily one of the best in the Batman catalogue, & beats the piss out of the rest of the comics turned movies.
As for this Ledger for Oscar biz, he was good & truly was the best part of the movie when he was on screen, but that's down just as much to character development and direction as it was to his acting skills. So I can't say he deserves to win outright, but a nomination for Supporting Actor could be in the cards thanks to a fairly weak field so far this year.

All decent titles... haven't seen Shichinin or Buono yet though.
Thought I'd throw this into the fray though:
City of God (Brazil, 2001...I think)
Brilliant flick, tons of action, some shocking moments, oh & it's a true story recounting the early years of one of Rio's top reporters of today.
I strongly recommend watching it... but for thtose of you that hate subtitles... sorry. |

shichinin is the "seven samurai" and buono is actually "the good, the bad and the ugly" -- have you not seen that quintessential eastwood flick? |

awesome movie, definitely the most memorable comic book movie i've seen... but don't see how it's the best movie ever? in 10 years i don't think it will be mentioned in the same breath as the godfather, pulp fiction, schindler's list, citizen kane, etc etc...
has me wondering who the next villain will be, and who will play them... patrick stewart as mr. freeze? liza minelli as the penguin? |

| The reason why ppl scored it so high, lately ... within the past 2 yrs, there's nothing that came out that was good at all. I still give it 9/10, it's really solid. |

This is first and foremost a movie with real characters, fully developed story lines, and real moral/ethical dilemmas... and secondly a comic book fantasy. That's the difference.
I also like the comparison of Joker and Batman in that they are essentially the same troubled people at the core; except one harnesses for good, the other for evil.
I think Christian Bale is definitely the best Bruce Wayne, but not the best Batman. |

We had to watch it in my film class and when my teacher would step out we'd try to fast forward it as much as possible.

The Dark Knight was easily the best movie I've seen this year, and the best superhero/comic book movie ever, in my humble opinion.
The Joker pretty much kept me in a state of shock through the whole film, from the moment he does his magic pencil trick ("Taa-daa!") to his final speeches. Ledger will certainly be nominated, and will probably win an Oscar for the performance.
Big, big points to Chris Nolan for his incredible direction and cinematography. This movie was made for IMAX, and if you don't see it on the big screen your life will be emptier than it has to be. The sweeping aerial shots of glass towers are jaw-dropping.
For fans of big budget action movie tropes, Dark Knight has it all. Then opening scene with its homage to Michael Mann's Heat perfectly sets up the kind of film it's going to be. The hand-to-hand fighting sequences are a vast improvement on the jerky, visually obscure fight scenes of Batman Begins (I think the improved flexibility of the costume went a long way to making Batman appear as agile as he's supposed to be.) The Hong Kong sequence is one of the coolest things I have ever seen on film. |

The Matrix is up there.
Ps. Ledger's performance, while outstanding, is definitely not "Oscar-worthy." |
