It seems all you need these days is distorted bass and 2 bottles clinking together to be the next cool guy who plays tech/minimal/techno/tech house.

The ONLY time minimal sounds good is when you play it over top of at least 2 other minimal tracks at the same time while keeping the bpm's above 130...

Unfortunately there aren't too many DJ's skilled enough to maintain that on decks...

Or you could do it on a comp but then you cease to be a DJ...

Being in Eastern Europe right now I'm just about ready to start puking techno beats. I miss my house :(

I disagree. Case in point - John Gaiser or Troy Pierce. Minimal can be good, but as long as it's done in the right setting, and provided that it's actually minimal and not click house!

This to me sounds like you do too many drugs.

(or should exclusively listen to trance)

;)

Addy for one...

OK he's the only one I've ever seen do it...

Which is why he's the only one I can enjoy...

And if you think 130 is ripping.......you're living in slow mo bro....

130 should be the warm-up...

lol..ok I'm exaggerating that last point but you get my point...

hahahhaha, you make some pretty ignorant comments dude. If you could elaborate on how you feel minimal is simple in comparison to whatever it is that you like due to lack of layers, please do...

You like trance, we know this, You like banging techno, we know this. You hate minimal and tech house and have made comments that would suggest you feel as if the production quality and creativity of these two genres is mediocre. Why do you think this? Could you offer some sort of explanation, from a musical perspective, and not just based on your tastes, as to why you think this way?

While I agree with you that there does seem to be a strong focus on techno (or what ever you want to call it) in Toronto I do think you have missed some good parties since you've been back.

Heather was here just before I got back from Berlin (about a 3 weeks ago). Jesse Rose (who we saw at Berghain) was here as well and he crossed all genres. There is also the cruise on labour day weekend which looks interesting as well.

I need my Farina, Heather or Carter fix since I've missed them the last few times they have been here since I was travelling. Derrick Carter is in Montreal labour day weekend (someone bring him back).
