With the sheer amount of music out there, a decent DJ should not have to rely on his own productions (or even try terribly hard) to play something that you haven't heard before. |

This is true but there are a lot of producers out there who I always look forward to seeing based on their tracks alone. So when I go to see them, I know that they will be playing them on top of the fact that they will be playing tunes that they haven't even released yet. |

| I think more along the lines of a dj/producer like yoji bomehanika, i know hes not trance:tongue2 but the way he interacts with a crowd is amazing , and he produces to fit those routines during a set. |

Example: I saw Gui Boratto this year. I knew he would play his music on top of music he is currently working on. It was a definite win for me because I knew that what I was going to hear that night was stuff that I like. I love the guys sound.
Someone who is a "dj only" isn't going to play a full set of Gui Boratto tracks. If he did, he probably wouldn't get far as dj. |

Yeah, but you should be able to see a DJ you like based on his sound regardless of whether or not he produces. |

Because what you're talking about leads to there being LESS music played out, not more.
How in s name you think that hearing the same tunes from one producer with one or two they're "working on" leads to more diverse music is beyond me. I can't imagine that argument making sense to a four year old, much less any adult. |
